If you don't need a job, then Santa Barbara, Laguna Beach, and San Clemente are all beautiful, peaceful places with clean air, good shopping, plenty of nice restaurants, etc.
But if you are pursuing a career, unfortunately those prime places do not include much by way of a job market. For a working soul who needs good career opportunities, better choices might be Del Mar, Manhattan Beach, Santa Monica where you have access to urban job markets but can still go home to clean air, nice restaurants, etc.

I'd say most cities in Orange County, excluding a couple. The beach cities that I like best are laguna beach, newport beach, and huntington beach. If you like being in hills and being a little more inland then try anaheim hills or yorba linda, those are both nice, low crime, wealthy areas.

I enjoyed my time in South Pasadena. It's a safe, wealthy, family-oriented city that is convenient to Downtown, the West Side, the beaches and the mountains. Best yet, an hour and a half drive gets you to beautiful San Diego and IT'S beaches.
I miss it. :)

Santa Barbara, beautiful coastal city, upscale, less crime, slower pace of living, and still close enough to Los Angeles

Any city in the Conejo Valley, good schools, safe, clean, lots of open space, beach nearby, good shops and restaurants....

there are lots but the are all expensive i love la jolla and del mar they are in san diego county ( i like san diego county the best ) i like brea and irvine if you want orange county and if in la county i like pasedena and glendora, if in San bernadino county ummmm maybe Big Bear and lake arrowhead, And in Riverside county lake elsinore,
