Be careful if you're going to drink before boarding your flight. If you appear intoxicated the gate agents and flight crew can deny boarding you, or remove you from the plane. It will then be your responsibility to rebook your flight, once you sober up.
If you're nervous about flying, bring things with you to keep yourself busy such as a book/magazine, CD or MP3 player, portable game system, laptop, DVD player or crossword/soduku puzzles. Keep in mind that you are not allowed to use personal electronic devices during take off and landing.
Taking some motion sickness medicine an hour or so before your flight can help too. Chew some gum during takeoff and landing to help your ears pressurize.
Above all, breathe! From what you describe in your question, what happened to you sounds like an anxiety attack. Stay calm. Sing a song to yourself, recite a poem, quote movie lines in your mind, do anything that will take your mind off what's going on and redirect your thoughts. Keep your breathing normal, and if needed, just before take off (while you're taxing to the runway) take a few deep, cleansing breaths. Breathe in through your nose, hold for 2-3 seconds and then exhale slowly through your mouth. Do this 2 or 3 times and it should help you remain calm.
As another poster pointed out, air travel is far safer than car travel. You have nothing to worry about.

Take 2 pills of "Dramamine" about 2 hours before the flight, and don't sleep much the previous night!! That way u'll be asleep most of the tiem and while ur awake u wont get dizzy thanks 2 the Dramamine, and I agree with "Kailee", bring bubble gum with u, just in case that ur ears start popping. By the way, bring some snack with u, because on my last flights they only gave me a soda, so u might get hungry. By the way, don't get nervous, remember that car accidents are A LOT more frequent than an airplain accident, so it's practically more dangerous 2 travel on a car!!!
Good luck!!

The airline should be doing everything it can to make the passengers more comfortable. Try to relax. Flying should be fun. Think about it. Man has never had wings. Some say man was never meant to fly, but look at us now. Any time someone says they just flew in from wherever no one thinks anything of it. In fact it is more dangerous being on the road in a car than in an airplane.

Probably drink some water before you go on. Also, my mom uses these little pressure wrist devices in which you push a button and helps with dizziness and nausea when you're on a plane, boat, etc. You can find these in your local drug store if you're interested.

My husband always drinks beer before he flies ... personally, I prefer to take my natural Travel Calm Ginger pills, which help ease my nausea and anxiety prior to the flight. I take two tablets about half an hour before I board, and then one every two hours or so but only if I feel myself beginning to feel anxious or ill again.

Just think of clam and happy thoughts. Say a little prayer and you will be fine.
My first time flying we just got done reading Alive. I was scraced to death. So I had pick out a bigger person and said to myself if we go down that will be my dinner. I know that is bad , but it had worked for me. I still do that when I fly today.

you may easily get plane sick. in that case, try dramamine pills. take two pills an hour before take off, and then you'll do fine. also, try to bring like an mp3 with you, listening to music you enjoy will distract you and time would feel like it pass by faster.

Just after take-off when the aircraft is rapidly ascending, try lifting your leg! It's bizarrely awesome how heavy it feels. Otherwise, just relax. Don't have too much to drink so you won't have to go to the bathroom. Don't rush to board or leave the plane - everyone who rushes to leave ends up waiting at the baggage carousel anyway.

Just relax.
Many airlines have music or tvs that you canlisten to.
I would suggest bringing gum to chew on in case your ears start popping and bring some good Mags or cds to listen to.
