Cold will cause sharp PAIN, pain and more pain. Heat will cause bleeding and possibly throbbing pain.

You should be able to eat jello without using the impaired area. Use your tongue and let it sort of glide down.

Tepid temperature is the answer here. Do not chew using the area where the teeth were extracted. Were you not packed with gauze?

Avoid sucking on a straw. That will earn you a trip to the emergency room with dry socket.

Well, I had 8 of my teeth extracted at once. My 4 12-year molars and my 4 wisdom teeth. I know you mentioned no milkshakes, but this is so yummy when you can't chew anything. I ate ice cream and milkshakes. I wasn't really that hungry anyway, I was just in pain. Again, I had EIGHT teeth pulled out, not just my wisdom teeth, so don't take that badly. You probably won't be all that hungry. If you are, just eat anything soft that you don't have to chew on. P.S.- use the ice!

Wait, so you just tried eating jello, and you now want to know what food you should eat. If you can't eat the jello, then you will be hard pressed to find anything better. Oh, and don't worry. The pockets of missing bone will begin hurting worse before you sleep. Since you lie down, the blood will go more to your head, causing more circulation in your mouth. Sleep upright tonight, and with a towel in case you start bleeding.

Perhaps it would be best to just eat some luke warm food, like warm mashed potatoes. You should be eating soft foods for a day or so. I really wouldn't recommend hot food. Try this out for this evening and perhaps tomorrow and then in a day or two you can graduate to something else. If there is a major problem, I suggest you call your dentist tomorrow and tell him or her about it. Perhaps your dentist can give you something for the pain. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon!

You dentist should have given you his phone numbers where you should be able to call him/her any time of the day or night. He/she is the one to ask. He/she might also have given you some written material that has the answer to your hot or cold food question. I would side with your mother, who is recommending cold food, but perhaps not really cold food. Probably just room temperature things for starters. In a couple of days it won't matter anyway. You'll be fine. In the meantime do what is the most comfortable.

Eat cold foods because it will help with any swelling. Make sure that you did not drink through a straw because you could get a dry socket. Also make sure you put ice on your face on 15 minutes then off for 15 minutes because this will help with swelling plus any bruising that you may have. Make sure that you keep your head elevated to help with the bleeding plus if you smoke make sure you wait as long as you can the longer the better. Starting make sure you do warm salt water rinses gently roll it around your mouth and let it roll out of your mouth do not spit the water out.

Definitely neither extreme! I ate warm mashed potatoes, jello at nearly room temperature and apple sauce. After a few days of that, I didn't want to eat any of those foods for a long, long time!

what ever you eat make sure it does not have crumbs and such. a small piece falling down there could cause more pain and damage if it trys to heal over it. and this headache stays until the hole completely heals.
best thing is nothing at all or jello or pudding. anything you do not have to chew.

I ate jello and pudding. Mostly room temp, just incase. Don't try anything daring yet though. I tried to eat pizza like an idiot and popped my stitches and bled all over. Sleep lots and take your medication. Good luck. You'll be happy to have them gone.
