A lab won't work if you want a smaller or medium sized dog because they get big, especially the males. A smaller dog with short hair you could consider is a Jack Russel Terrier. They're full of energy, though, and that could be either good or bad for you idk.

Boxer!!! they are the best. THey don't attach to a specific person in the family and are very protective of children. Great temperment. I have 2 and my 1 year old uses my female as a pillow, pulls their ears, messes with their food they couldn't care less.

Well I have a Shi-tzu and she is a very good dog they are great with kids and adults. They require some grooming but not much.Don't let their hair get to long or it will get all knotted.

You should get a Golden Retriever! They are the prefect dog for a person who hasnt had a dog in their early years. They are great companions, and arent hyper and out of control. They obey your orders, and are easy to have pets. And they are the cutest breed of dog out there, trust me, they are beautiful. So be smart, get a golden retriever puppy!!!

Go to your local animal shelter and look there first. There are millions of dogs that need good homes. It is ok if your dog isn't a pure bred. some of the greatest dogs are rescue dogs from the pound that are mix breed. Please look there first and help out the shelters and save a dogs life.

A bull terrier is a good ,short haired, medium sized dog and will only be aggressive if you raise it that way.Trust me I have one she is the best and my younger brother is 12 and she sleeps with him and protects him all night long.

A beagle would be a good family dog or companion, they are playful, smart, easy to train, and need little grooming.

Siberian Husky. They don't moult like most dogs, so are tidy to keep inside. Make sure you give it plenty of exercise though. Plus they are really pretty dogs.
