Try finding some healthy, but quick alternatives. Frozen dinners are full of fat, sugar and preservatives. If you have to go for a really quick meal, you are much better off giving him a whole wheat sandwich with some carrots and dip and a small treat for dessert. We've pumped our kids so full of these preservatives and hormones that kids are actually going through puberty at a much earlier age these days. It's very scary. Remember, if you can find an hour to yourself each week, then prepare several meals for the rest of the week and put them in the freezer. Your son will thank you in the long run when he's a happy, healthy guy!!! Good luck!

TV dinners are OK every once in a while. It sounds like your son is at least eating, all my 3 year old will eat is p-nut butter sandwiches and pickles. Here is a very healthy, very tasty, and very quick meal idea for you, as a matter of a fact it's what we just had for supper and it only took me about a half hour to fix it.

Chicken Pot Pie

1-2 cans (12.5 oz.) of Tyson Chicken Chunks
1 can Cream of Chicken Soup
1 small onion, chopped
1 can (16 oz) of sweet peas and carrots
1/2 cup of chicken broth
2 Tablespoons of corn starch
salt and pepper to taste
Crescent Rolls

Combine all ingredients except for crescents, till well blended. Pour into a 9" by 11" pyrex dish. Cook at 400 degrees for about 15 minutes, top with unrolled crescents. Cook about 20 minutes more or until crescents are browned.

Good Luck and hope you enjoy the recipe.

Oh come on get real people ! Frozen dinners are made up of the same things you eat every day !!! Frozen vegetables are better than canned ! Frozen fish, chicken nuggets, meatloaf, etc.... Those are the same things you cook for dinner !! Just because they are frozen doesn't mean they are less healthy than if you cook them 20 minutes before serving. It is MUCH better to give your child a frozen fish stick dinner or chicken nugget dinner than a homecooked hamburger or cheeseburger. And most TV dinners contain Mac& Cheese which is good for them also. The onyl thing not good about serving TV dinners is the lack of "home cooked" feeling and sitting around the dinner table passing the food bowls around which usually makes dinner take longer, therefore giving you more quality time and interaction with your kids.

99% of the public does not cook healthy food at home. They add butter, seasonings, salt, oil, etc... to the food when they cook and that makes it about equal to a tv dinner, so unless your a dietician and prepare your food special every day, your feeding your child about the same as giving him a tv dinner.

And Froggiemama4 - check out the sodium and fat content on that can of Cream of Chicken soup. Also check the sodium and fat content on the chicken broth, which is usually made up of cooked chicken fat, crescent rolls are white bread and white bread turns to pure sugar in your system. May as well mainline some sugar. Most canned veggies also contain high amounts of sodium per serving, frozen veggies are best ( yeah, like those in tv dinners ). And then your adding salt to season on top of all hat's there allready ? And if you happen to put margarine on that roll, well, let's just say your healthy snack is probably worse that two tv dinners. :)

Based on your sensitivity to other people's responses, I would guess you are feeling somewhat guilty about what you are feeding your child. YOU ARE NOT A HORRIBLE PARENT.

We are ALL busy and don't have the time to cook the HEALTHY, well-balanced meals that we know are best for our children. Who is kidding who? ALL kids are given less than healthy meals on occasion. The important thing is to provide balance whenever possible.

Some tips that have worked for me include:
Cook on the weekends and warm things up during the week.
You and a neighbor or friend take turns cooking for the other each night.
Use a crock-pot.
Use a pressure cooker.
Cook and freeze multiples of the same meal in order to save both preparation time and grocery money. Have a family cooking weekend once every two, four, or six months, where everyone peels, chops, and mixes in order to freeze meals for months.

Good luck!

I would try to mix up some.dont give him the tv dinner option. I am a SAHM of 3 and its not all that easy to have dinner cooked and ready to go at a certain time. My husband is deployed and i feed my 5 and 8 year olds tv dinners occassionallyand my 13 month old i give her gerber graduate meals. They are little toddler size tv dinners pretty much. they are easy enough to heat up in the microwave and easy storage. My daughter loves them. I know that with this next statment most moms are going to think i am a bad mom but you got something to say to me dont I dont care what most of the people on here say anyway. Hell my daughter loves chocolate and chips. I personally think you are doing a wonderful job with your son. he is growing and as long as hes healthy its okay, but i would try some new things with him though hotdogs or those gerber graduate meals. Something with less sodium. If you have questions you can always email me.
Best of luck to you.

From the time he was 14 mo. untill he was nearly 3, Mine would only eat Macaroni and Cheese... and hot dogs. (I could cook whatever I wanted, He'd go looking for the little blue box!) Besides, most TV dinners actually serve up a better variety of food at one meal than I'd be willing to COOK myself after working all day... ( think Food Pyramid!) Sounds fine to ME, of course MY two boys are 18 (6'4"), and 15 (6' 1") now, but I did it then, Heck, I do it now. Kids your sons age will usually not eat more than they actually want, and can be REALLY picky. Sounds like you have a healthy little guy. about the only thing i'd say is read labels, some brands have more salt than you might want him to have... and I've learned that TOO much salt at young age can (possibly) lead to other conditions as they get older, but that's a ??? for a pediatrition, NOT me... (have you tried Michaelina's? they are GOOD, and very affordable.)

I understand that you are busy, but TV dinners have lots and lots of sodium. Maybe a few nights a week is okay but you need to try and do some dinners without so many preservatives and sodium. Spaghetti is really easy to fix. You can make homemade pot pies really easy if you get that chicken that is already cooked, a can of cream of chicken soup, and a bag of frozen vegetables and put it in a dish and put biscuits on top and bake it for thirty minutes.. You are a good dad and you are great to try and make sure your baby eats healthy.

as long as it's not all the time it's fine. I think Gerber makes meals on the go for kids now. I believe it's by the blended baby foods at your local grocer. You have a point I have seen people do worse. Oh my kids hungry here have a raw hot dog and some pop tarts. At least you ARE taking the time to nuke something and hungry man has meat vegis and a starch.

When my son was born I swore that I ewould only feed him healthy foods and cook wonderful well rounded meals that covered all essential food groups....then life happened and even I feed my son less thatn perfect foods from time to time! People that trash you probably don't even have kids...just useless opinions. I'm sure you are smart enough to notice if your child is showing signs of malnutrition (which I am sure he is not) and work on it if it becomes an issue. Good luck to you and enjoy your baby...they grow up too fast. And remember parents who truly love their children usually know best!

I wish I lived with you growing up LOL That is good eating !!!
rock on!! hungrm man that is my favorite potatoes with butter favor yum yum

all I got was baby food and rice no favor to itand as for the tv dinners they are great! buy some freezer bags and when you make a tv dinner seperates it in half for the kid give him half and save the other half if the fridge for later.

what your doing sounds like a right on plan to me with a few modifications but your right on track!

but you need to mix it up and try something else from the store like pasta as you said all that is good umm a few steaks, or fish is a good thing LOL if you enjoy eating that your kid would too!

just cut it down for him
