earlier today i took my dog out to the front yard and was going to play with her, but when we go out there she wouldn't go past a certain spot in the yard. Then a couple of minutes ago i tried to take her for a walk, and she loves going on walks. But when we got to the end of the street she wouldn't go anyfarther, and she wasn't tired because we usually go alot farther. so i turned back and when i got to my house, the only place she would go was towards the door. Could she be afraid to go on a walk again?, because on our last walk she got shocked by an invisible fence at a house on the next road and she got really freaked out by it. Please help, why is my dog acting so wierd???

Yes - she is freaked because she got shocked. Was she wearing a collar??? I would make the walk as positive as possible - but it will take her some time to get over it.

Try having some really good treats with you - and go slow. I would put her on the leash and start her out in your yard - having her sit or do other "tricks" for you - always rewarding her with the treats and engaging her.

Slowly move out of the yard, and keep having her focus her attention on you - working for the treats. Keep the sessions short - and she will get over it. Having the treats and her focus on you will help speed this along. If she is truly afraid - don't push her (i.e. drag her out for a walk) - this will only make it worse.

Here are some articles - one talks about the Fearful dog and overcoming the fear.

I think you've answered your own question. Something tells me that the invisible fence is bothering her. Perhaps that spot in your yard smells like the spot where she was shocked. That fence probably really frightened/hurt her.

You need to continue to take her out for walks and reassure her that everything is okay and avoid that house with the invisble fence like the plague! Bring biscuits along and talk softly and reassuringly to her. It might take a while, but she'll be okay with your support.

Well, first, take off the shock collar when you walk her. When you walk her try and stay away from that house. Talk to her softly while you walk her and reassure her that it won't happen again. After about 3 weeks try and walk her near the house again. If she gets freaked out pet her and tell her it's ok and wait a little longer to take her near it again. Just don't rush her or drag her. That will make it even worse.

I think that is what happened. Does your dog wear a device that is triggered by an electric fence. If so you need to take it off your dog I think that is a mean thing to do to a dog. Maybe there is a danger in your yard that your dog is aware of and you aren't.

You should take your dog to a vet and get an expert opinion.

You just gave yourself the right answer..But, I haven't heard of the invisable fence that shocks dogs not wearing the matching collar.
it takes dogs about 3 weeks to forget such a scare.

invisible fence works if the dog has and invisible fence collar. How did your dog get shocked by the neighbours fence?

Take the collar you have on him off then.

If she accidentally got shocked when she was on a walk, take her shock collar off when you go for a walk.

Yeah sounds like that invisible fence has her spooked. Can you go in a different direction?
