If he's young and choosing to do it, he's probably okay. Since he has an alternate route, he must like doing it. However, keep an eye on him. They're pretty smart, and if that hurts, he'll probably stop doing it. I would suggest putting a cushion or something down as a landing pad just to be on the safe side, if that's doable. Even an old sofa cushion from Goodwill, etc. will work just to soften the landing.
Good luck.

Yes, my friend's cat has jumped from the railing on a second story loft onto the first story floor a few times. It's about a 12 foot jump. He's fine, so your cat should be.

Cats are very smart! If it hurt him he would not do it. He probably likes the excitement and thrill! Consider him CatZilla! If it hurts him he will stop.
My middle son jumps from the top bunk to the floor even though there is a ladder he can use!

Well cats have great balance. But my cat does stuff like that sometimes then lays down for a while.... like if I jump off the monkey bars or something {playing with my little sister} I feel pressure on my joints for a minute then I'm okay so I guess it doesn't but you should ask a vet.

Nah, he will be fine !!! Have you not seen cats fall or jump from high rise buildings and land on their feet ?? They are very nimble, very smart and they have nine lives !! Even you cant beat that.
If they do something that gives them pain, trust me they will stop doing it...and you really cannot teach him to take the safer route
( dresser, nite stand, floor), they are independent creatures.

Well, get a couple of doggy stair products and nail them together and show the cat to climb down them.Because my friends dog did something like that and jumped of the bed and broke it's neck,be careful it could happen t your cat.

lol. My cat used to do this allll the time.... maybe put some soft rugs or something where he jumps off? My cat was alright because we had shag carpeting. it's normal though, cats love jumping and stuff. Natural predators :)

I've seen a lot worse, I don't think it's a problem. Haven't you heard the old saying? "Cats ALWAYS land on their feet" Anyways, if it hurt THAT much, he wouldn't do it, not even cats are THAT stupid. P.S. - If it bothers you that much, then cusion the floor and see a vet to check any injuries (if your cat has some).

If he yowls and screams and walks funny it's not good for him. Otherwise, he's okay. If it hurts him at all, he probably won't do it again. Cats are pretty light on their feet. I've seen them fall out of trees and be upside down for most of the way, flip over and land on their feet. They get that "Okay, okay, okay. That sucked" look on their face, then run off to chase another bird. Stupid, huh?

You know what? At the end of the day it's only a f*cking cat!!!! Who cares?
As for suggestions, (besides a psychiatric review for yourself) cut the cats f*cking legs off. Problem solved.
