If the mates are the parents of the 2 baby doves then they should not be together to mate. It sounds like one of them has a bad gene, only an Avian vet could answer. The remaiming leg on each dove could be fixed by vet but the baby doves would be handicapped for life and need constant care because they could not fend for themselves.

This is a common problem in doves and pigeons caused by not having enough stiff nesting material. Unless you place more stiff nesting material in their nest right away so that their feet have something to push against, they will be crippled and be unable to walk on both legs when they start to feather out. You are right about a vet -- they might want to dispose of them.

Find yourself an avian vet. He or she can go over the options with you, and might be able to fix their legs, but you'll never know until you ask. If you don't get them professional care, your babies might not survive and will never be normal, happy birds.
