Depend on styles. In brazilian jit jitsu and judo it mean something. However that is because they earn the belt through daily sparring and tournament.

However in most style, all you have to do is memorize some type of dance and bingo! You get the belt.

I would like to have no belts at all and judge people on where they are skill wise than by what belt they are.
If your belt is the only thing holding up your gi than you've got oher problems.

no they help pull off and outfit and they look cool and some belts have that noen light screen the you cant put a messege on and if you are attacked by a wild animal you can use your belt as a weapon! and more

In Karate: I wear my belt around my waist because it doesn't stay around my hips.

Outside karate: I wear a belt because I really do need to keep them up. My waist to hip ratio is relatively large (around 11-12 inches).

I use my old karate belts for guitar straps and casual belts can second for spanking

For holding pants up, for using as ropes, lol for whipping someone, for strangling someone.......but don't try it! And for style! And many other things.
