I presume you are referring to a mental illness.

It has a lot to do with the person, their age, and the type of illness. A mental illness is an actual medical issue that is caused by or complicated by some kind of chemical change in a person's brain or body.

Having a mental illness is a very stressful thing, especially if it happens in the middle of a person's life. The added stress, along with the social stigma that unfortunately accompanies a mental illness can often make a person feel angry, helpless, and frustrated and they deal with these feelings by lashing out at others.

There are many mental illnesses that can affect a person's moods, and can cause inappropriate anger. Many mental illnesses such as depression or bipolar are classified as mood disorders. If this is an older person, a disease such as Alzheimers can also affect mood canges.

The best thing to do is be patient with the person, especially if they are seeking help with their illness. This is a life-altering issue and is not an easy thing to deal with, even for the healthiest people. If they are NOT seeking help, then perhaps you can encourage them to seek help. Depending on how close you are to the person, this could include an intervention of some kind.

Good luck!

yup. When the human body is pushed to limits because of illness or extreme exertion, the fight or flight response and other base instincts affect behavior to a greater extent than they normally would. Why do you think Zidane headbutted that Italian player in World Cup game? Sure, the guy was saying nasty things, but that normally wouldn't cause him to lose control. He had been running around in terrible heat for nearly two hours and was injured during the game. It's the wounded animal response.

I've seen a lot of sick people and some of them are so kind and considerate of the others around them - even when they feel like s***. Being sick can make you cranky - but most people do their best even when sick to be decent to others. There are some that can act mean and demanding - but usually they are that way to begin with.

Some become bitter about being ill, but on the other hand, an illness can make others humble.
