I just dated this incredible girl and we had nothing but an awesome time together. She used to date this guy (who was also her first boyfriend) who was controlling and verbally abusive. They broke up about 3-4 times over. Her friends and parents hate him. She would tell me how she hated the things he did and how she couldn't be his friend. Now we've broken up and they're friends, however she isn't dating him nor really hanging out with him. She's basically shut me out of her life, although she really wanted to be friends and still hang out. I still get the feeling she really misses me (she has to!) but we haven't talked in almost 2 weeks (except brief text message).

Moving on is important, I know but I really just want her back, and hanging out is where it begins. But how do I ask her if she wants to hang out without sounding needy/like I want her back? How can I show her I want to be friends without making it seem like I miss her? Im gonna text her and I want to be sure what to say.

Don't worry about sounding needy/wanting her back. Cause you do. Just don't smother her. Tell her that you enjoyed her company and miss her, and ask her to meet you for food or coffee or something. Then let life take it from there. Either she will totally shoot you down, she will accept but only want friendship, or it will evolve into something more. Just don't push it, and make sure the invite is casual and relaxed, send a text message just saying wanna grab a bite this week, or something like that, so she doesn't feel that if she says yes, that is has to be a romantic meal.

Maybe you need to be a little more stern, maybe she likes that. Either way, you have to be able to meet her in order to find out. Be youself, be honest and don't be afraid to ask her what she wants. If she's interested, she'll be there, if not...keep moving on.
Good Luck

Ask her if she wants to go get a bite to eat, or go to the mall or something, then just talk with her.
