Just be honest with her and tell her that you are glad that you two are so close but that you need your space too. Make sure you tell her how much you love her and what a great mom she's been.Tell her that sometimes you two will do things together but there are times when you want to do things with your friends or something like that and that she should respect that.
It sounds like you may be an only child and she has kind of built her life around you. That can be tough! But you are eventually heading toward independence and will be grown and on your own, she knows that and it probably scares her some. Reassure her that you will always be there for her but that she has to trust you to make some decisions of your own and you need to live your own life to. These are just some ideas rolling around in my head. I hope it helps some. Good luck!

Then SINCE your mom is like a FRIEND..you can TALK TO HER just as if SHE IS your friend! Right? Right! You can either write her a nice little note OR you could simply tell her. Start out something like this, "Mom, I love you very much and I am so grateful that we are able to talk to eachother the way that we do. Right now, do you have a moment? Cause I'd like to talk to you about something....(then, when she is listening,,,) Okay, FIRST, PLEASE LISTEN and hear me out BEFORE saying anything...okay? Mom, sometimes I need you to be more my mom than my friend. And, I don't want to hurt your feelings, but, the time to quit being my friend and just please be my MOM, is NOW. It doesn't change the fact that I'll ALWAYS love you and that I know I'll always be able to come to you and talk about basically anything! But at this time and place in my life, your being my "friend" is getting a little weird AND uncomfortable...I KNOW you of all people will understand...right? and she will!
Goodluck and...go get her, tiger!

Tell her that. Tell her you are glad that you guys are so close but sometimes you want a mother instead of a friend.

my mom and i were like that...if she's truly like a friend then you should be able to tell her. tread lightly though - there's no need to be mean, just honest.
