How do you tell a women that you are Bio-polar without scaring them away? I finally decided to tell the last girl I was seeing that I had this mental problem.. she said she just wanted to be friends after that..
Should I wait till after we have sex to break the news? Should I wait till after we are married? Should I wait till I have a problem with my mental health to tell her about it? I figure I am not lying to her as long as the issuse never comes up. Why should I tell her, unless she asks me about it? My women is a child phycologist. Yes, that is one of the reasons I am so attracted to her.. I know she will understand me.. But when should I tell her is my question..

I'm bipolar too. I agree that the sooner the better because if your relationship lasts long, it'll probably come up at some point anyway. And then she might think you're angry or disappointed at HER, and that'll make things really bad because you'll be in no mood to explain it at that time.

Communicating is important, as well as making sure she understands what's going on (she sounds like she will). If you love each other for who you are, bipolar shouldn't be a deterrent. I told my now-fiance way back, within the first week we were dating, and he was extremely understanding and accepting. So now when I go into the low end of my swing, he's there to hold me and comfort me. And you know what? That makes me get better faster. But thinking back, if I'd waited until I actually was depressed, I would've been too caught up in it to explain anything coherently, and he would've been very confused and hurt. Hell, I would've been confused myself.

I'm sure you've been told about treatment options, so I'm not going to bother lecturing (I find it anoying when people try to talk me into getting drugged up on lithium). For me, though, having the support of my fiance is the best treatment I can think of.

I wish you the best of luck. Keep your chin up, and if she really loves you, it won't matter a bit.
