My daughter was diagnosed last Oct with AML she was 6 then. I didnt believe the dr.s cause she wasnt sick just had some bruising, but I guess the test's dont lie. She is doing great after her treatment but has slow recovering bone marrow. Its important to remember that everyone is different and will go through treatment differently. I found good information from the leukaemia foundation website. Try not to think of the worst case senario's cause its not over till its over. Your brother and your family have a long road ahead. Getting plenty of emotional support for yourself is very important, keep a diary and ask questions no matter how stupid they seem. On good days my daughter and I would play games, I would read to her she would make a mess with art stuff in her hospital room. So I guess being there when he needs you would be the best thing. My love to you and your brother through this difficault time.

Leukemia is a disease that can hide for a long time and be mistaken for a number of other things- and then explode on the scene. Fortunately, there are treatments- including bone marrow transplants.
Whatever you do, don't lose it in front of your brother: He's going to need all the loving support he can get. If he stays at home while he's being treated, he's probably going to need someone with him to help him with a lot of things. A number of people I've known with cancers had day-beds set up in the living room so they wouldn't feel cut off from the world. Talk with your brother and see if he wants that.
Try to get him help with cleaning his place: He won't have any immune system to speak of, so the slightest bacterium or virus could make him deathly ill.
Use Google to search up information. And ask about the disease and what the doctors are doing about it.
And pray a lot: At the very least, it will harm nothing.
Good luck to you and your family.

I also found this: Acute leukemia is characterized by the rapid growth of immature blood cells. This crowding makes the bone marrow unable to produce healthy blood cells. Acute forms of leukemia can occur in children and young adults. Immediate treatment is required in acute leukemias due to the rapid progression and accumulation of the malignant cells, which then spill over into the bloodstream and spread to other organs of the body. If left untreated, the patient will die within months or even weeks.

I am sorry to hear about your brother.I am also sorry for the stupidity of the first answerer.
the reason they did not diagnose him sooner is because it is acute leukemia, that means it came on fast and will continue to move fast.I hope they have caught in time that they can prolong his life.I am not going to sugar coat anything This is a bad illness when my husband was diagnosed with acute lymphatic leukemia in 1999 all I wanted was the truth I did not want my feelings spared I wanted to know everything there was for me to know even his prognosis even if it was not good. I wish you and your family the best in coping and dealing with this everyday.

I'm very very sorry to hear that.. As what you can do to help, First of all treat him normal,Try your best not to make him dwell on it.. Be his sister and respect his wishes as how to treat him, dont be going overboard like he's on his way out...Be your self..love him as your brother..Life is crul and hard for any of us to know what we would do if it was us...Best I can say is just be his sister....He will be in my Prays, this you can be sure of.. I'm Sorry to hear that he is sick so young, I think that Chemotherapy would be his best option even though it may come back, if your brother is stubborn and has alot of will power I think he should be fine.
