First off, a rule in thumb when traveling is not to stash all your money, credit cards, traveler's cheques, etc. in just one place, so in case of theft, you'd still have something to tide you over until your return trip. But if you do lose your credit cards and such, it is best to call up your credit card company immediately and notify them that you have lost your cards. You'd still be able to make arrangements with the hotel and the company from which you rented your car to charge the bills with your credit card. File a police report as well as soon as it happens, and call up your family or your office, whichever is applicable to you.
Safe travels.

Call for a replacement credit card. If your already checked into a hotel then you fine, if not then you'd have the hotel call your credit card company and they would authorize your stay in lieu of having your card available. The same would go for your rental car if you were obtaining one. The only foreseeable issue would be if you lost your passport.

I would call the credit card companies and cancel my cards. I would then call my folks or a close friend to wire transfer me some money to get home( western union) If no western union you could use fedex, although western union is better and safer. Next time us travelers checks.

Call your credit card company....many have overseas offices... you may be able to get a new card right away. Just don't lose your passport.... cuz then you'd need to contact the US embassy

I'd contact American Express. They have offices all over the world. They'd cancel my cards and get me an emergency replacement. I've had them literally courier ship me a card in less than 1 day.

Cancel the cards, ring family , and report the theft to the police.
You will need that for any insurance claims

I hope I'd remember that commercial about American Express Travelers Checks - and not bring the other stuff. They are replaced within 24 hours if lost or stolen.

Don't let it happen.
Keep cash on you, and with your baggage.
Travellers cheques = if you lose them you can replace them but you have to write down the phone number and codes of your cheques so they can't be cashed.
Credit cards: call and have them cancelled. Order new ones.
