This is the problem. There are so many other books and stories that deal with "magic" and wizards and witches and mythology. Harry Potter just gets singled out because it is so popular. I don't see burnings of Bednobs and Broomsticks movies or the condemnation of the Chronicles of Narnia which has magic in it.

Many of those who oppose Harry Potter have not read the book and do not see the underlying theme of Good vs Evil and right and wrong.

I happen to be very religious and a large fan of the Harry Potter books.

So those people who think it promotes the Occult have not examined it as a story in it's own universe.

My friend who is also a christian loaned me a video a couple of years ago that had a speaker giving a presentation about harry potter and other witchcraft subjects. The gentleman in this video was a former satanist turned christian and he made it very clear that although many disputed it and that it may seemed like harmless entertainment, he said Harry potter was indeed evil and the spells used were indeed witchcraft in it's truest form. Satan likes to put a sweet spin on evil .just enough to make it look good and innocent, but it's deadly none the less.

No. It is simply a well written book about good and evil. Harry Potter fights on the side of good, while Lord Voldemort is evil. It's only a story. Anyone that takes it for more than that are getting in way too deep unnecessarily.

I wasn't going to post here, but a thought a cured to me.

Isn't Harry Potter and Star wars kind of have a lot of the same elements?

Star Wars has magic too, but the Christians like star wars. They both battle evil. I think Harry potter more closely resemble the evil that they battle within them selves. So they are opposed to it. while star wars is fare removed from their struggle with reality.

OK send the hate mail, I'm waiting.

There is nothing Evil or Demonic about it. HP teaches about dealing with being the odd one out, and the difference between good and evil. True Witchcraft is not represented in the books...

and for the morons that think that Witchcraft is devil worship... GET AN EDUCATION. Witchcraft has nothing to do with the devil or its worship. It's like satyng all catholics are really satanists... ludicrous.

Give some proof of it promoting evil and devil worship before you sling such ludicrous slander. (this is aimed not at the questioner, but at some of the answerers)

Here is the truth about potter.
De 18:10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch,
De 18:11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.
De 18:12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.
De 18:13 Thou shalt be perfect with the LORD thy God.

I am a Christian. And I love the Harry Potter books. I know that might be a problem for some people. But I know a good book when I read one.

witchcraft is evil, harry potter uses it so how does evil defeat evil? Its a bit like war, war is evil, destructive, its a bit like the blind leading the blind, they both fall into a ditch, both err. This is why Jesus said,"Do good to those who despitefully use and abuse you, if some slaps on you on th left cheak, offer the right." The act of blessing those that curse you cancels out the evil act, and stops an escallation, eg when they slap your cheak, if you retaliate, what happens? All hell breaks loose, if you offer the other cheak without condemnation, actually bless the person, its a bit like pouring hot coals on their head, they feel ashamed, and take a look at themselves. So hw then can witchcraft, which is evil, defeat itself?

I think witchcraft is evil, and we should avoid anything that has to do with it. There will be people who disagree, saying that Harry Potter teaches a lot about good and evil (and I agree with that), but I still think it's a dangerous road to read books where any kind of witchcraft is glorified.

Some do and some don't. As someone said earlier some believe that it promotes witchcraft and devil worship. That is why they think Harry is Evil. I find that the those who are more conservative/fundamentalist/etc tend to believe Harry is evil. I haven't found too many liberal/? denominations that think he's evil. I personally think it's a movie. It's make believe like Scooby Doo, Smurfs, Cars, etc.
