Old-Fashioned Strawberry Shortcake
* 2 cups flour
* 1/2 teaspoon salt
* 4 teaspoons baking powder
* 5 tablespoons shortening
* 2/3 cup milk
* 1 egg, well beaten
* 1/4 cup melted butter
* sweetened strawberries, fresh or frozen*
* Whipped Cream
Sift together flour, salt, and baking powder; cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in milk and egg. Mix lightly. Divide dough in half; roll each piece out to fit into an 11x8-inch baking pan. Grease 11x8-inch baking pan. Place 1 portion of rolled out dough in greased pan; brush with melted butter. Place the remaining portion of rolled out dough onto the first one and brush with more melted butter. Bake at 425° until browned, about 25 minutes. Let cool then cut into 8 serving pieces. For each shortcake, split cake portion and spread sweetened, slightly crushed strawberries between and on top of split cake. Serve with whipped cream. *If using fresh strawberries, hull, clean, and slice a pint of strawberries, then toss with 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup of granulated sugar and let stand while shortcakes are baking.

Not a silly question...actually there are many ways to make a strawberry shortcake..strawberries of course, but the shortcake can be pound cake, those little sponge cakes that you buy at the store, some make little biscuits from the back of the Bisquick Box, some use angel food cake, or bake a white or yellow cake and use that..it's all up to you and what you like or remember having as a kid..and not to be forgotten..whip cream..homemade, cool whip, the stuff from the can..your choice..and you some put ice cream on it too..

Oh, it's easy. Cut up the strawberries and mix in some sugar with them. Put the strawberries into the fridge and stir them once and awhile to even out the sweetness. Then, when you are ready to make your shortcakes you can buy the shortcakes premade at the supermarket. Then, just scoop some strawberries with the liquid onto the shortcakes. Top off with whipped cream and enjoy. Delicious!

3 ingredients - some kind of cake or biscuit, strawberries and whipped cream. Slice up strawberries and place them in a bowl, sprinkle some sugar on top (not too much - you don't want it to look like your strawberries got stuck in a snowstorm) - let the bowl of strawberries sit the fridge for an hour or two and it makes a nice juice. Then take a frozen pound cake, those little round cakes with the indent in the middle or biscuits (I use the Bisquick recipe) and place a single serving size on each plate. Take out the strawberries and plop on top of the cake (include some juice). Top with whipped topping (Cool-Whip or the stuff from the can) and a little bit more strawberries and juice. Serve and enjoy!

Get fresh strawberries, smash them up with a potato masher, And some sugar.
As for the shortcake you can buy it pre-made in the store. Or use Bisquick or something similar.
Just pour the strawberries over the shortcake and top with whip cream if you like.

From scratch? Or just the quickie way? The fast way is to buy a pound cake, some fresh strawberries and whipping cream. Put the berries on the cake, the cream on the berries and that's pretty much strawberry shortcake (the fast way.) There is a longer one though.

get some shortcake (or those little cake cups they usually sell next to the strawberrries) and some strawberries and whipped cream and layer them on a plate.
If you're trying to make the whole cake, I'd look up a recipe.

It is really easy! At the supermarket (usually next to the fresh strawberries) they have these cake cups. Buy a package of those. Load each cup with fresh strawberries and then add whipped cream.

just go to the fruit section in your local market and pick up a container of fresh strawberries or frozen which ever you prefer. usually the short cake's are located by the strawberries or in the desert isle and get some whipped cream. and there you have it.
