Just trying to save some money cause some places that take Senior pictures are really high priced.

It isn't just the quality of the camera, it's the skill of the photographer. If you really need to save money, see if there are any photography schools in the area. Students who have at least some experience might be able to give you some great photos at a much cheaper price. You'll need to think about WHERE you'll have the photos taken, if they don't have a studio. Consider various outdoor locations, like scenic parks.

Obviously nobody here knows what your school's policies are. However I would get them taken professionally. They are your senior pictures, you (or at least your family) will have them for years, and they should look good.

Trust me, as good as you think your buddy's digital camera skills are or something, you can't match a professional with years of experience and several thousand dollars worth of equipment.

Your school has a contract with a local photographer.

Let's see. If you are paying less than $250 for the session, you are getting off cheap. If you are paying less than $450 for a set of photos, you are getting off cheap.
