I just started baking cakes for my family and friends birthdays. Everyone tells me I will become a professional baker, but how far fetched an idea is that? I am a stay at home mom of two, and they are not even in school yet. anyone done this kind of thing?

Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can about the industry. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

Make flyer's and put them out. Put an ad in the paper, and advertise. Start doing it from home and see how well it works. Get the word out to people you know and tell them to tell people. Set up a booth at a local fair or craft show and have samples people can try, along with the information on how to order and what you do and how much it costs.
Good luck.
I would like to own a bakery one day- I make excellent candies and cheesecake and stuff like that.

Baking cakes out of your home is a good idea. Wedding cakes are the money makers. I used to know a woman who did this while her children were preschool. Bake when you need the money.

Not too hard to start a cake decorating business, except you need financial commitment. Do it part-time at home. Take orders when you feel like. You'll have more freedom.
