Cannon/Rocket/Mortar fire.
Basically, in the simplest terms possible:
Forward Observer says: "I need fire at coordinates 'X' "
Artilleryman says: (distance away) "Ok, here it comes."
*boom*
Forward Observer says: "Just landed, move it left and forward a bit and let 'er rip"
Artilleryman says: "Ok"
