Get a spray bottle, and make a mixture of water with a little bit of vinegar (just enough that you can smell it). Turn the nozzle to a very light mist, and spray him when he starts barking. He'll learn pretty quick.

You want him to stop barking? TAKE HIM OUTSIDE DON'T MAKE HIM STAY IN HIS OWN POO! That's cruel and inhumane.
I live in an apartment and I've had sick dogs. It means I have to go outside - constantly if necessarily. I can remember a few nights where I was outside more than in my bed. That's the deal that you signed up for when you got a dog. It's not about you sunshine, it's about your sick dog and his health.
I'm sorry - but this is where crate people drive me crazy. It's the lazy persons way out. Get off your ***, take the dog outside - if you have to stay there for an hour then you stay out there for an hour - if it means going outside every 30 minutes, then that's what you do. If it's been more than 48 hours, then call a vet.
Get off your butt, do the right thing and stop being lazy. Next time you have the flu - maybe you should try doing the same thing to yourself, bet you'd be screaming too.

If the diarea has lasted more than 3 days you should take him to the vet. Otherwise make sure he gets plenty of water. Dehydration could kill him. Give him only cooked plain rice to eat, or mix it with a very small amount of dog food. Nothing greasy. This should help the diarea to slow down or stop. Don't give him alot to eat for a couple of days until he seems normal.
As for the barking, he just wants your attention, but if he still has a barking problem after he gets well, get a small bean bag and throw it down right in front of him every time he barks. Don't hit him with it, just throw it on the floor in front of his front paws each time.

Feed your dog boiled rice and boiled chicken this will stop his diahorrea.
If your dog is not trained to go into the crate, he will have anxiety. Is there a bathroom with only tile floor to put him in? Then he doesnt have to "go" in his sleeping quarters.
You cannot lock the dog in the crate for days, put an electronic shock collar or mist collar on him if he has anxiety, this will make the problem worse.
Find some information on how to retrain your dog into the crate, starting with small periods of time so that the next time he gets sick you can leave him in there.
Dont feel guilty, dogs should be crate trained for this purpose, vet visits, and grooming and boarding. It is a fat of life for dogs. Feeling guilty and having anxiety only leads to the wrong messages to your dog.

First of all, why is he sick? Did he eat something out of the ordinary? A virus maybe?
One thing to watch out for is Parvo. It'll kill the poor fella if it isn't treated quickly. Any Vet can treat it if it's caught early enough.
Another thing is dehydration while he's sick. If he's not drinking water then he'll dehydrate and it'll make him weaker.
If he's been sick for more than 24 hours, then take him to the Vet, especially if he's vomiting along with the diarrhea then he's also dehydrating. Get to the Vet if he doesn't feel better within 24 hours.
My Vet told me that Pedialite (the kids' drink for dehydration) will also help a dog.
Please, please, take him to Vet soon in case it is parvo if he isn't up to date on his booster shots. If he's had shots recently, he could be reacting to those, too, but the Vet should have told you that he may react to them.

the remote and electric shock collar. The moment he/she barks it will sting them but not in a very deadly way. You can also find some with remote equipped so you can shock he/she if it is misbehaving. It is sort of cruel but it works. I actually put it on my friend and he stopped talking. It was great.
I'm only kidding about the last part.
Good Luck

Poor dog, I feel sorry for him, but I feel even sorrier for you for having to put up with it. I don't know if this would work for you in your situation, but I know folks who live in a neighborhood where houses are close together, and people don't tolerate barking dogs. They use those electric shock collars that zaps the dogs with a mild shock if they make too much noise. Pretty awful, but it seems to work. They only use them when necessary, like when they go to work for the day. Their dogs are spoiled and happy, otherwise.
Hersh is probably right... that poor dog probably has a stomach ache, and needs to go to the vet.

you dog is probably suffering from separation anxiouty. there are alot of things you can do for this..
get them attached to a certain toy by either making it enjoyable to play with (chewing stick or ball) or associating it with an activity that you and your dog participate it. (fetch or tug a war)
keep that toy or chew stick in their crate to occupy them when they are in there ... you have to let your dog feel comfortable in the crate so forcing them into it will only make them resent it... so let them get comfortable with it iif not already. one way of making them comfortable in their crate is placing it in an area that you are always in (living room, bedroom) with the door open. also.. make sure that you don't leave the dog in there more than 6 hours at a time depending on age and breed.
as for the diarrea make sure you check the diet.. it may be too rich
and also make sure you see the vet.

Gees, why do people like you have dogs? The poor thing, locked in a crate with diarrhea. And you hate it. Imagine how he feels. You should be put in the crate with him. Talk about animal cruelty. Do everybody a favor and find him a good home.

LOL SUCKS FOR YOU, my dog did that too. The pet shop said to lock my dog in a cage for about three days and the barking will stop. Well it never stopped for one month till we let it out. Now it's always with me. Although it has no diarrhea.
My Advice: Get a bootie plug for your dog.
