Have tried DVD Shrink, Ripit4me, DVD Fab, DVDV Decrypter, etc. Get a variety of error messages like "cannot open file", "navigation error", "circular error", etc.

You need a program called DVD43. It takes a movie and makes it so you can use any of the programs you listed to copy a backup. You can find it here.

The program you need to use can depend on what movie you are trying to copy. You can go a google search for: burn dvdname dvd
and the results should take you to forums where people have written about how to copy the movie.

I don't know if DVDV Decrypter really was meant to be DVD Decrypter. If it wasn't, you should give that a try. Another good program is total video converter.
