The 2 main ways are: eating too many calories and not exercising enough.
However, there are other ways including:
- Drinking too much (alcohol has 7 calories/gram)
- Slowing metabolism (after age 40, for every decade your metabolism slows 5%...which means that you need to eat 5% fewer calories per day just to remain same weight)
- Thyroid problems
- Drugs (usually prescriptions to solve some other problems)...so, for example steroids, such as predneson (sp?) can cause you to gain weight
- Certain health problems can cause you to gain weight

There are more than two ways to get fat. Sedentary lifestyle, eating the wrong foods, over eating, not eating enough (your body holds on to everything if you don't eat enough) genes, medical conditions, birth control, other medications
