"there are two phones in my house and one line. Can I call one phone using the other"?

You can't be serious. If you only have one line, you can't call the other phone. You need two separate lines for that.

This is not a silly question, when my children were living at home I would call them if I was on a different floor and needed them, that was 30 some years ago, I don't remember the number I had to dial, not sure if there is a way now.

Yes there are ways to do that. Buy a new telephone with the intercom facility and you can transfer the call from your telephone to the other telephone ( well the correct name is extension ). Then this second extension is going to ring

there used to be a way of doing that when i was a kid. you could make the phone ring by dialing the numbers out of order. say if your number was 456 XXXX you would dial 546 XXXX. it dosnt work any more.

Have you actually tried to do this?? This is one of those questions that an easily be solved by oneself, so either you don't get the concept of Yahoo Answers or you have nothing better to do with your time.

Yes if your phone is equipped to do that. Mine has intercom so yu can call other phone.
