It depends on the problems in your life now: If you are scared of being condemned by god, then deciding that god doesn't exist can lift a boatload of anxiety. If you identify as a conservative Christian, one that adheres to fundamentalist viewpoints, releasing theism can free your mind from the logical acrobatics necessary to keep those ideas from crashing to the ground. If you are (A) comfortable with belief in god, (B) comfortable with knowing there is no way to prove that god exists but through your own spiritual intuition and the long tradition of spirituality present in the church, and (C) comfortable with the idea that you are a Christian because it makes sense to you, but that others may find a different path because that alternative makes more sense to them, then chances are that you will gain little or nothing by renouncing Christianity.

I don't believe your life would *improve* if you converted from Christianity to Atheism. Life is still hard whether you're a Christian or Atheist. So, when bad things happen, it's reassuring to have a Heavenly Father to talk to and ask for help. sounds like you are questioning your religious beliefs and faith. But Jesus said, just the faith of a mustard seed (very small faith) is all you really need. Ask God to help your unbelief, just as someone in the New Testament asked Jesus. God will reveal and make a way for you. He loves you that much! Wish you the best.

It's not about Christianity or Atheism. It's about being a decent human being and using common sense. Just because the Bible says Thou Shalt Not Kill, it doesn't make you a Christian if you don't kill people. It just means you're using your brain for something other than a hatstand. If people lived like civilized human beings, it wouldn't matter what faith you are because all faiths embrace a common code of decency that people who are atheists also choose to follow because it's the right thing to do.

As a Christian, it is my "JOB" to try to convert people, share the good news..etc. I don't. I hate when people try to preach to me. However, I do know that God exists. I don't believe you HAVE to go to church or HAVE to pray 20 times a day to be Christian. I know God exists and he knows I know that. Problem solved. My friends keep trying to get me to come back to church and its annoying. I don't feel comfortable there, so I'm not going to go back. I might find a new church one day, but intil then, I'm a "closet Christian"..which is fine with me. I think you would have a harder time being an atheist. Because EVERYONE would be trying to get you to convert. But, if you really do not believe in God, it may be the only answer for you. Best of luck on your spiritual journey.

Not many. After all, you are no longer under the protection of God. You are free to do whatever you want, like smoking, drinking, and gambling. You will be completely free to throw your life away, yes glorius, hospitalized freedom. You won't have to worry about your kids growing up to be murderers anymore. All you have to do is go hang out with your friends while drinking beer in a car and getting in an automotive accident. I have also heard Hell is a great place, with endless burning, no water, and no light. No comfort from pain and agony. Yes it would be wonderful to have that freedom and not share with other Chrsitians in the blessings of God, wouldn't it?

Well here's a few !!!!
Say you swapped for Theism instead of Atheism,if you did that ie.1 God 1 Universe created by him you could ignore all the man made religion-invented by men to control the masses-and you'd be left like all other thing's in life-in tune with the eternal, like in nature - butterflys dont have man made rules to divide them nor does nature (also eternal) so why do we ?

Nobody 'converts' to atheism. Atheism is not a belief system. What happens is you just learn how to think properly (reason, logic, critical thought)... and then when you apply those to your belief systems, your beliefs just go away. Poof. Then, you are an atheist.

rhymeweaver... very nice sentiments. Well done.

If you ARE Christian, I see no way you could possibly convert to Atheism.
Christianity is Faith in Jesus. Do you believe in Jesus?
Then how could you convert?
Why would you 'even' consider?

You could become a criminal uninhibited by the belief of an ultimate authority that can call you to justice.

Although I don't know if that's actually an improvement.
