You have a poor seal..my concern is that since the seal is poor it might explode if it is a old pressure cooker it has a rubber ring around the lid that helps seal it when you lock it. If the rubber ring is old you might try to replace it..I remember my Mom making lots of stuff with her pressure cooker..quick dinners...

I never use pressure cookers, they scare me to death.
Funny because my mom used to cook in them all the time when I was a child. I didn't like them even then, but the results were great.
Sigh, Oh Well.

It leaks and therefore takes a while to build pressure. Thats what's wrong.

You probably do need a new gasket BUT in the meantime. Pull the gasket out, wash it in warm soapy water (not the diswhwasher) and put it back in. It may just have food residue.

The rubber on the top, needs to get changed. Becareful, thats kinda dangerous. I had one bust open cause it was like that. Luckily I wasn't in the kitchen when it happened.

You probably need a new gasket.It doesn't seal tight enough anymore
