I regularly play oboe but have a clarinet that I can use for marching. I didn't really want to do marching band this year but everyone tells me it is fun and we will be going to St. Louis this year for Bands of America (BOA) competition.I don't know that much about marching band and don't think I am ready to play clarinet. Marching Band Camp starts July 31 so I don't have that long to decide whether to go or not. If you are in marching band, is it fun, hard? Do you like it? What is it like? Do you think I should do it? I am going into 9th grade so I don't have to do it this year if I don't want to but I would like to try it if it is fun. Any information you could give me would be great.

OMG I AM SO ENVIOUS OF YOUR BAND! NO FAIR! T_T *just graduated high school* you should totally do it. I'm not even kidding. It's such hard work, but once you're on that field with a thousand people cheering, and you're playing and you KNOW, without a shadow of a doubt that you sound and look GREAT, it's all worth it. Do it hon. Even if its just for one time, it's such an awesome experience. omg I'm envious! BOA! No fair!

Marching Band Is fun and you learn a lot, Marching band would help you to lose weight and develop stamina on your breathing and support when you play. Marching band is an excellent aerobic exercise. If you do field trips you will meet a lot of other musicians like you.

I played piccolo in a marching bad for 4 years and I loved it! I met a lots of people and I had so much Fun!

Go to the camp and have fun after the camp of you feel is something that you don't want to do. Then quit.

But be ready to work hard for long hours. but at the end is worth it Believe me.

I have been the Drum Major of a college marching band for the past two years and I believe Marching Band to be one of the greatest experiences of our education systems. I would definitely give it a try for one season, and if you do hate it, don't join again. You'll make some great friends and have some of your best memories marching. It really is just plain fun, and all the hard work is definitely worth it as soon as you step onto the performing field.

Best of luck!

I am in my high school Marching Band, and can tell you this. If your band camp is anything like ours, it is extremely long and difficult. it is possibly the worst 3 weeks of my life. but after that, and after you know the drills, it is the most fun and rewarding thing. I reccommend you get very confident and wait a year to play in MB if you're not totally confident, because it's a whirlwind and moves fast, unless you're a senior. go for it now. take some lessons so you're very confident. but it's definetley rewarding and colleges love it because they see you as being disciplined.

Marching band is pretty fun, and it has it's perks. HOWEVER, if you don't like marching, forget about the clarinet and go with you oboe. I play oboe as well, and during marching season I get to play percussion instruments like bells and keyboards.

I loved it. I played Bassoon normally, and I played marching band in the pit. It was always a blast, and we went on BOA trips, too. Plus, as an added bonus, it got us out of 1/2 year of gym class at our school district. Go for it!

If marching isn't your thing than don't bother going, you'll only complain about hating it later. But if your up for a new challenge and you want to try something new than go for it! Music is a wonderful thing, and so is performing, but only if your whole heart is in it!
