I was wondering about all religions, except atheist (that is a religion), concept about conducting your life on earth. Is it part of your everyday life and practice or is it something you do one particular week, month, year. If it is part of your daily life tell us why? Most of us take religion as a 'service' for us or to make us 'feel good.' I think it is more than that. It should better us as individuals and bring the best in us for the betterment of next life, and ultimately to please God. This is time to share your religion without the insults. If you have quotes from the religous books please give them.

I like your perspective. I agree completely that religion should not be confined to a once a week service. Religion should include daily affirmations or practices aimed at making us better human beings. It should enlighten our way throughout our days.

For me, I pray daily and read scripture daily, and this helps me to keep my focus on God. I always sing devotional songs in the car on my way to work. It is the actual being at work that can be tough though. It is easy to get bogged down and forget religion and its lessons then. But that is precisely where it is needed the most - in the "real world." But if I take the time to calm my mind in meditation, then I am more apt to see the big picture while I'm at work, and minor annoyances are not so bad.

Also, my religious values guide my decisions in life. I do not cheat anyone and I tell the truth. I eat a vegetarian diet, and try to be kind. I try to see the good in people and learn from everyone. These guiding values are more important than a mere religious service. But the religious services and religious practices do help to keep our eyes on the goal, I believe.

Pentecostal here...and YES...religion is an everyday thing for me. I am still new to UPC (I was raised Methodist), and am soaking it all in. I live each day (to the best of my abilities...I am human...I am by no means perfect!) trying to live each day pleasing the Lord. Church used to be a weekly 'service', as you said, where I'd go, make my appearance, sing a few songs, then it was back out into the world. My life now is so much easier and I am finally happy! Living for God is awesome. There is truth in our church, that most people don't understand why we do the things we do(for example, women wear dresses/skirts, don't usually cut their hair, wear little to no makeup, etc.[not like the amish or anything]). Heck, there's things in our church that I STILL don't understand...but it's a learning and growing process. Many people think we're a little "extreme" because we take His word literally(how else should it be taken?). If your parents told you to do something, and you disobeyed...wouldn't that be displeasing to your parents? Same goes for our Heavenly Father. He gave us rules and instructions to follow...and those who do not listen will have to deal with their choices on judgment day. Thankfully, we have a forgiving and righteous God! I know that the path I'm on is the right one (for me, maybe not for someone else...I won't push my beliefs on someone when they're not interested). Anyhow...enough babbling! :) You asked for my two cents...! Lord bless!!

I try really hard to. Living your religion on an everyday basis, in someways, can be very challenging. I am an eclectic Pagan and I feel it is extremely important to pray and community with your spirit guides as frequently as possible. I feel it is also important to meditate regularly and just listen to what God/Goddess has to say to me. But, sometimes it can be really difficult to find the time!

However, in actions, as far as acting in an ethical way, and just being a generally nice person, of course I do. In fact, since I'm not a member of a mainstream religion it almost seems more important that I act accordingly and set a good example. So many people assume that we are devil-worshippers, when we don't even believe in Satan, and in essence, believe in the same God as them, even! I believe that all gods are One. I believe in God -- just not the Christian bible.

It's a bit more complicated than that... but that's not really included in the subject matter of this question, LOL.

Interesting question!

First, what is religion? James 1:27 says, "Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world". Religion, as God intended it, is not about receiving something. It is about giving of yourself - Giving to God and giving to others. Religion, as God intended it, is not about going to church to feel good; it is about going to church to make others feel good.

The purpose of the church, according to the Bible, is to prepare the Christians for service; to prepare us to serve God and to serve others. Eph 4:11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
Eph 4:12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: The word "perfecting" in verse 12 would be better translated as "equipping".

You are correct. Most of us do consider "religion" to be a 1-day-a-week thing. We do church on Sunday morning (or maybe Saturday morning) and forget about God the rest of the week (maybe even the rest of the day). This is not right and I have to blame it largely (though not entirely) on the religious leadership. Where is the man of God standing up for the Word of God? In too many churches we have feel-good pastors preaching feel-good sermons to feel-good Christians so they can all leave promptly at 12:00 and feel good about themselves!

I had a theology instructor who had a very concise statement concerning the job of a pastor: "to comfort the afflicted and to afflict the comfortable". We have the "comfort the afflicted" part down, but we have forgotten to "afflict the comfortable"!

"Religion", properly called Christianity is not just a part of my life, it is my life. No, I am not a pastor. I am a full time employee of the WV National Guard. A belief that doesn't affect all aspects of your life is not truely a belief; it is merely an excuse to occasionally do something different.

Definitely an everyday thing.

FAQ: Is Swedenborg a Universalist?

Swedenborg speaks of universal principles of religion from a Christian standpoint but the term "Universalist" has come to refer to a set of beliefs that are distinctly not part of Swedenborg's doctrine/theology. Some of the universals of religion are as follows:

"That God is one, and that there is a conjunction of charity and faith" (Soul and Body n. 20).

Also, "This only One and very Self is omnipresent, omniscient and omnipotent. This also every Christian acknowledges from his doctrine and every gentile from his religion. In consequence, wherever he is, a man thinks that God is there and that he prays to God at hand; thinking and praying so, men cannot but think that God is everywhere, that is, omnipresent [in all places at all times]; likewise omniscient [all knowing] and omnipotent [all powerful]. Everyone praying to God, therefore, implores Him from the heart to lead him because He can lead him; thus he acknowledges the divine omnipresence, omniscience and omnipotence, doing so in turning his face to the Lord; thereupon the truth flows in from the Lord" (Divine Providence n. 157).

Also, "There are three essentials of the church: acknowledgment of the divine of the Lord, acknowledgment of the holiness of the Word [Bible], and the life which is called charity" (Divine Providence n. 259[3]).

Also, "Every man [or woman] can be saved, and those are saved who acknowledge God and live rightly" (Divine Providence n. 325).

Acts 9:2 mentions about "The Way" A group of people who had changed their lifestyles and carried themselves in such a dramatic new Way they brought persecution to themselves. So Yes for me it is a lifestyle. As one of JW's It means I do not cheat, steal, lie whether being watched or not. Very hard to do if you have ever been poor enough to be on public assistance, standing in line with moms in gold chains and new hairdo and manicured nails knowing they didn't tell the truth. Even harder to do when your children are ostricized for not saluting National emblems or holidays with everyone else. But a commitment to follow the Beliefs of what your God teaches, obediently and wholesouled.

I am Pagan with strong Wiccan tendencies. And yes, it is an everyday thing for me. Upon waking up in the morning to falling asleep at night. From my morning prayer to the God for another glorious day to my evening prayer to the Goddes for another beautiful night. As I walk outside in nature, hang out with my kids, talk with my husband, I acknowledge the Goddess and God in all that is around me and within me. Wiccans have a rede that we try to live by just as christians try to follow their ten commandments. Live in perfect love and perfect trust, and harm none. Honor nature and respect this Earth that is ours.

I dont have a religion, but i do believe in being a good person and I believe that you should treat people with respect and kindness. It would be great if there was an afterlife with angels and a "god". but I guess I will have to wait and see.
