Most all animals who live long enough to die a natural death can sense it coming on and find a hiding place so they can pass on peacefully. That's why you only actually see predated or accidental deaths. It's the same with us just we're much more social about it, like whales and elephants.

When A bird feels it is going to die. It wants to feel safe and secure. It usually seeks out a low growing bush with lost of small leafy branches. The bird hides and relaxes their and dies. Then ants, and bugs consume the birds body in days.

Bloody good question my friend!!!
With all the 100's of thousands of birds out there, I can honestly say the only dead ones I have seen are road/cat kill: or served on a dinner plate!!
May be birds don't die!! Maybe they get 'Raptured' & thats why we find no carcases!!.... there's another argument for the religious & spirituality section!!!!!

typically, when a bird is ill or old, it knows it is vulnerable. it tends to "hide" or find a safe haven until death arrives. otherwise, a sick bird makes a great meal for scavengers and opportunistic predators. if a bird is dead or dying somewhere out in the open, it makes for a quick meal.
the rapture answer is kinda funny though.

When birds in the wild are going to die, they usually go off to a quiet hiding place. The know that if they are out in the open other wild birds or animals will attack them.
