It's possible, but that means there's something really wrong there that's bringing her down. It could be something simple like it's messy and uncomfortable to live in, or it could be something more complicated like a parent. Talk to your friend about it, and suggest she see a therapist to help her figure it out.

I would believe that to be possible. Even the amount of light can cause depression in some people. However, I would strongly suggest that you get him/her to a counselor because perhaps there is something happening at home that is triggering this depression. It could be a cry for help too. Depression is a tricky thing do not take it lightly or you may lose your friend.

I think it is possible to be depressed only in one place, but 'the home' is more than just a place, it is a place that grants a state of mind. If your friend is truly depressed at home, then they are depressed, in general. Maybe they need to get out of the house and see if they can leave the depression behind them.

Absolutley

Certain environments can depress a person. It sounds like your friends home is just a depressing place to be for her, and years down the road she may overcome the feeling when she visits home, but the feeling may never go away.

It's sort of like hearing a song on the radio that depresses you. It' always going to be depressing every time you hear it.

Yes, but it's not really the disease itself. She is depressed at home because she has time to think a lot about her problems, which causes her depression to really 'show itself'. When she's not at home, she's probably either working or going to school or out having fun with friends, where she doesn't have time to think as much because she's doing other things. Advice: she should keep busy!

well, yes... it's called situational depression. if she's okay when outside of the situation, then the depression is likely coming from environmental factors.

if she can't resolve things at home relatively easily, then depending on her age, she should try to spend as little time there as possible, or even look into moving out. have her talk to an adult she trusts about options. depression is something that needs to be treated.

Yes. Certain places can stir up certain emotions. Maybe he/she has a problem with the people at her home, or there's bad memories there. I moved from my hometown, and just being in my hometown gives me the creeps. I'm usually depressed for days after visiting. I have bad memories there. Give your friend support and try to get him/her out of the house. Be supportive of all your friends and never get angry with them for being depressed. Also, you might suggest she talk to a counselor or something. Good luck to your friend.

Does she live at home with family?
Maybe she feels trapped their. Or their is a person their that treats her bad. Or it could be that its just a messy house. That depresses me. She might not get enough light. Some people need a certain amount of light each day.

Yes maybe she does not have depression just is upset or emotionally unstable at home. Or maybe someone there is treating her bad! She could have some anxiety to which is commonly associated with depression.

Yeah I think, it's possible. My argument is: environment has a big influence to our mind (mental health). When you get a lot of pressure in a particular place such as your working site, your house due to demand from your boss or your family, it can lead to stress and depression.
