I'd never heard of this when the last pope meant to be?
OK so he had a prophecy but the pope isn't actually called the name before he becomes pope he is given the name sounds like the Vatican are just using the names to wind us up.

Yes, but the thing many people leave out is that this account doesn't include antipopes (as the last five who have claimed to be pope are). And this (as many prophecies) is not something we should focus on and is not open to laymen's interpretation. We cannot fully understand it because it is at a much wiser level than we are.

And anyway could it not be a case of the people call the pope by the name tht has been predicted because what they call the pope is not actually the popes real name.

I believe there is a better than not chance his prophecies are accurrate, I am still skeptical. Only with time will we know for sure.
