Carbs aren't necessarily bad for you. There are "bad" carbs and "good" carbs. Our bodies need carbs to help aide in digestion, energy, and cell rejuvenation. Bad carbs are the obvious, white bread, chips, white rice, highly sugared colas. Good carbs- brown rice, wheat bread.. etc..

Carbs are the biggest source of energy for your body. So they are not bad. However, if you consume more carbs in a day that your body can consume they will be store as fat. You have to know what your limits are. Now, not all carbs will effect you the same way. Fiber does not have the same effect as sugar. So avoid your sugars and increase your fiber.

Carbohydrates are necessary even though your body can produce energy through gluconeogenisis.Carbs are stored primarily in the muscles and liver as glycogen.Once your body has enough stored glycogen at the moment an enough sugar in your bloodstream your body will release insulin to take some excess sugar from your bloodstream. If your glycogen stores are maxed ou or the blood sugar goes up too quickly the insulin will convert the sugar from these carbs to fat and store it in your adipose tissue

It's not a matter of good versus bad, it's a matter of striking the correct balance of carbs, proteins, and fat.
The Zone diet for instance, which started out as a high performance diet for athletes, recommends that 40% of your calories come from carbs, 30% from protein, and 30% from fat. There's more to it than just calories of course.

Carbs absorb water and when you cut them you lose water weight instantly and that is why all the fad diets cut carbs so people see weight loss instantly

Nether carbohydrates, fats, or proteans are bad for you. It is the amount and the mix that most people eat that is the problem.
