The brownie is soft, fudgy, sweet and chocolatey!
1/4 cup cocoa powder
2/3 cup flour
5 tbsp butter
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
Preheat oven to 375F.
Prepare a baking dish. I use an 8x8 inches square glass dish. I think 8x8 or 9x9 round dish should work just fine too. If the dish is nonstick, you don't need to do anything. If it's not nonstick, grease it.
Melt the butter - a couple of minutes in a microwave will do it.
Stir the cocoa powder into melted butter.
In a large bowl, beat the eggs with the sugar for several minutes.
Add butter/cocoa mixture to egg mixture and stir. Add the flour and stir until combined (don't overmix).
Put the batter in the baking dish and spread evenly. Put in the oven.
Bake for 20 minutes and take it out. It will seem undercooked, but it's not! Don't be tempted to continue baking it until it's hard - you would end up with a tough brownie!
Let it cool down for 10 minutes, and you'll have a soft, fudgy, yummy brownie! Slice it and eat. YUM!

Brownies Recipe
10 tablespoons (1 1/4 sticks) unsalted butter
1 1/4 cups sugar
3/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder (natural or Dutch-process)
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons almond extract
2 cold large eggs
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
2/3 cup pecan pieces
1 Position a rack in the lower third of the oven and preheat the oven to 325°F. Line the bottom and sides of an 8-inch square baking pan with parchment paper or foil, leaving an overhang on two opposite sides.
2 Combine the butter, sugar, cocoa, and salt in a medium heatproof bowl and set the bowl in a wide skillet of barely simmering water. Stir from time to time until the butter is melted and the mixture is smooth and hot enough that you want to remove your finger quickly after dipping it in to test. Remove the bowl from the skillet and set aside briefly until the mixture is only warm, not hot.
3 Stir in the almond extract with a wooden spoon. Add the eggs one at a time, stirring vigorously after each one. When the batter looks thick, shiny, and well blended, add the flour and stir until you cannot see it any longer, then beat vigorously for 40 strokes with the wooden spoon or a rubber spatula. Stir in the nuts. Spread evenly in the lined pan.
4 Bake until a toothpick plunged into the center emerges slightly moist with batter, 20 to 25 minutes. Let cool completely on a rack. Lift up the ends of the parchment or foil liner, and transfer the brownies to a cutting board. Cut into 16 or 25 squares.

I don't use the sugar, because it makes it too sweet for me.
I don't by brownie mix any more, because I can make it so fast, I was getting addicted! LOL
It is sooo good warm with milk!!!

My wife makes the best from scratch brownies I have ever had, and she uses the recipe in the old classic cookbook, Joy of Cooking. I'm sorry I don't have the recipe to paste in here, but every house should have JoC. So, go get it if you don't have it. Not only does it have a great brownie recipe, it has everything from basic meatloaf to crepes.

Brownies from the box... all you need is eggs, oil, and water, most likely... then an ounce of the green.
* I'll second the comment about the Joy Of Cooking... great cookbook. lol And I use the crepe recipe, too.
