Not sure about the oldest but its definitely the most boring.

There are horse races that are older than the America's Cup, which touts itself as the "Oldest Internationally Contested Sporting Event"
The Grand National in England has been running since before the America's Cup, and the Oxford-Cambridge Rowing match, since 1829 dubs itself the Longest Surviving Sporting Challenge

The modern Olympics are not older than the British Open, they started in 1896.

If you want to consider ancient sports events like the Ancient Olympics, then you'd have to consider the ancient games of the Mayans, Chinese, and the annual jousting tournaments etc .

The America's Cup goes back to 1851, the British Open started in 1860.

The Royal Saint John's Regatta dates to at least 1826, so we actually have a sports event in Canada that is older that The Open.

No way! Haven't you ever seen the Flintstones? The annual Bedrock bowling tournament is the oldest sporting event!
