I have never been in a bar or club legally (before, I was really quiet because I didn't want to get found out). I don't know how to dance or socialize in those places.
(a) What should I expect?
(b) Without being slutty, how should I act?
I am a little shy too, is this the right environment for me? I don't want to get wasted and/or be slutty

It's not all that exciting. You will walk in, hear loud music and see people drinking. Men will probably approach you, some may even offer to buy you drinks. There's no pressure to dance and most people don't really socialize (it's too loud to hear anything).
That's a club....now bars are a lot different. Some are fancy, others are full of drunks losers - but you should be able to tell the style by the looks of the outside of the place.

don't do anything you don't feel comfortable with! no one says you have to go out to the bar and get wasted on your 21st birthday. maybe you'd be more comfortable going out to a nice dinner w/ a group of close friends and drinking champagne with dinner. just b/c the masses go out and get drunk and act slutty doesn't mean it's right for you. forge your own path in life, plus it is so NOT attractive to get wasted and act like an idiot, get sick on yourself and feel crappy the next day! happy birthday!

do yourself a favor and check out a wide variety of bars and clubs...you will eventually find a spot you like to hang at.

If you are going with friends, they should be able to tell you...
Dress nice, but sexy... If you are attractive, just wink at a couple of guys and they'll buy you drinks... :D
