same way it is being done, but hitting harder.

It's hard to answer because now we have the gift of foresight to shade our reponses. I felt the war was wrong then, I feel it's wrong now so I doubt I would have been as eager to go to the Middle East. I saw then that the events of 9/11 could bring the political parties together under a shared tragedy but the way it was handled just caused the rift to grow.
To be honest, I'm not sure. I like to idly wonder what Roosevelt or Lincoln would have done. I like to play with the idea of what Clinton would have done but the fact of the matter is, they weren't in power, I'm not and never will be in power and the way 9/11 was handled only caused more domestic and international problems than we already had. It could have been better; it wasn't.

if i was the president at the time 911 happened i would have been on the phone with the heads of the FBI and CIA to see what in the hell was going on that they did not know this was going to happen. next i would call the head of the UN to call an emergency meeting of all the world leaders this way we would have full support of all the countries in going after the terriers organizations that did the attackes. then i would address the nation to let the American people and the world know this would not go unavenged. and no this is not a hard question to answer if you take the time to think about it

The response of President Bush in the days after 9/11 was brilliant and decisive. And I would not have changed a thing. However, in the next few months, he listened to the power-mongering neocons and began strangling our liberties through such things as illegal wiretaps and the patriot act (both extremely unconstitutional). These were all in the name of protection and security. However, this country was founded on the principle of "liberty or death." We don't trade liberty for security. Besides, there were many good processes in place to combat terrorism that the Bush administration followed and should have continued without altering them.

This is an excellent question.
It's hard to say exactly what I would have done, considering that there is probably a lot of intelligence information that I, and the rest of the public, know nothing about.
Still, given what I DO know, I probably would have acted similarly to how President Bush acted. I would have demanded cooperation from the Taliban regime in capturing OBL and destroying Al-Quaida. Had they not cooperated, I would have invaded the country to destroy them myself.
Beyond that, I would have worked to create strong international efforts to eradicate terrorist groups. I would have encouraged better preparedness for future terrorism.
I would not have attempted to strengthen law enforcement at the expense of civil liberties.

Exactly what G. W. did. He is such a great president. The only people that don't like him are the liberals that have their hand out, and want more from the american tax payers. Boo Hoo, Bush is spending money on military, and not sending out more welfare checks, or grant money for "nasty art" projects. I can just hear them now.

I would have shot the planes down before they crashed in to the towers, the communications between the Air Control and pilots were enough to merit this decision. Then I would have bombed the responsible countries back to the stone age.

well you know that is a very complex question and without all of the information that the Presidnet had at that time (which i dont think the general public has access to) i dont think its really possible to make a real actual decision here.
however, given what i do know, i think i would have done the same thing our President did.

Well, first of all I would not have finished a book about a goat. I think I would have asked when, where, and how?
And, I would have hunted Bin Laden down until I found him, I would not have raided Iraq, and I would not have lied about everything.
