A red eye flight is one that flies during airport curfew hours (depending on region, it could mean from 2359 or even FROM 0230 to early morning, which is about 0600). They may range from domestic short-haul (eg. AA flight 234, LAX-MIA) to international long-haul (eg. SIA SQ285, SIN-AKL). The slang term "red-eye" came from passengers complaining of bloodshot eyes from the lack of sleep onboard these flights.

A red-eye flight is a flight operated by an airline very early in the morning, roughly during the period from 1:00 to 4:00 a.m.. The term "red-eye" derives from the fatigue symptom of having red eyes.

It's a quick flight, late late at night. It doesn't refer to a type of airplane.
