...would they be more impressed if I microwaved a TV dinner, cooked instant pudding, or reheated some McDonald's for them?

Keep in mind that this is the big Christmas dinner, and that my parents have never visited me in Canada yet; so, I need to impress them with my cooking skills! I just want to start planning for their visit ahead of time!

I'm sure they would be thrilled to visit you in Canada but maybe it would be best to have them arrive a few days early so your Mother could do the cooking. Afterall, they already know you and they know you can't cook so they aren't expecting much but that is an awfully long trip for McDonald's leftovers.

Nice. If you feed them food like that they'll wonder what the hell you are doing in Canada and take you home to get a proper meal. I know some Russians and they are excellent cooks. But since they are coming to Canada how about some poutine and a maple something or other for dessert. Mc Donalds and TV dinners are American.

Geesh, if I were your parent, I wouldn't be impressed with any of the choices you have to go on the table.. especially for a Christmas dinner???? You've got to be joking!!!

If those are your choices, then I guess I'd be impressed because you had the atleast the ability to turn on the stove to "cook instant pudding"..

I've read a lot of your questions and I sense that you are quite the over achiever. So, if I was you, and was looking to impress, I'd definitely do all three. Serve it in courses. However, you have to be on top of it because the microwave is going to required for two of the three courses. I'd say the most difficult problem now is deciding what to serve first; the Salisbury steak or the Dbl Qrt Pounder.
Oh... be still, my heart!

You should serve them poutine...jk. Go to Chapters and try finding a Canadian Living Holiday Cookbook or a Best of Bridge Cookbook (both are good) But the traditional Turkey dinner should be fine.

It sounds like they'd be most impressed if you took them to a good Russian restaurant for food they would understand. You might really blow their minds by taking them to a Russian Orthodox mass where they could celebrate the holiday for what it really means.

I really don't think they expect you to go to that much trouble, and remember they're your parents so you don't need to impress them. Just open a can of baked beans or something and eat it with them cold right out of the can. Dog food is also pretty nutritious.

You know i don't think they would like that well you know them better so go with what you think. For christmas dinner i would want turkey and mashed patatoes with gravey. but if i had to choose between the three options you gave me i would have to go with...McDonalds but not reheated fresh through the drive thru fresh. : )
