acid imbalance such as to much acid in their system.. ex: to much coffee -orange juice- tomato sauce-medications- irritates mucous membranes etc.. and.. stress.. also an imbalance of the amino acid lysine. avoid those acidic foods or to many at once.. say like juice and coffee in the am will do it or stress .. I would suggest 500mg 3 x a day of Lysine at gnc not cheap chalk preservative stuff at a lower cost.works for healing and pain till symptoms subside as well as non ascorbic acid vit c 2 grams to heal sores. BIG difference of not using ascorbic acid in Vit C -also one is prone to those sores then they might be prone to shingles herpes zoster virus.. and for the record even if u have no open sores.. u can spread herpes or those sores to people and they might have to take zovarax which is like 100 bux verses lysine and vit c which is like 10 bux together..some people have weaker immune systems or high acid systems...

sometimes herpes just runs in your blood.
you can just be born a carrier of herpes.
just not the sexually transmitted one.
