Let's see...we gotta have a license to work in certain jobs, we gotta have a license to drive a car, hell, in some places you have to even have a license to FISH. Don't you think we could avoid some of the child abuse and neglect of children if parents were required to have a PARENTING LICENSE?

The problem is that becoming a parent is a fact of biology, not one of choice. Anyone who is biologically ready can become a parent, simply by making a bad 30 second decision.

China has implemented some birth control laws, IE, one child per couple, but those laws get violated all the time, sometimes intentionally, sometimes accidently.

So, say we implemented a parenting license? What do you do when someone has a child without a license? Fine them? Ok, but what about people who can't afford to care for the children, let alone pay the fine? Take their children away? Wonderful, but who raises the children? Who pays for all of this?

The _only_ viable solution is education. And that starts at home.

This is a great idea. And to be able to get one, you would have to meet certain criteria (having a solid career, not just a job; having a home you are making the payments on - rent or mortgage; having health insurance; passing mental and physical examinations; having your home inspected in surprise visits; having a range of adults in your community who are committed to helping you in case of an emergency or other needs) PLUS you would have to go through 3 months of intensive training (child psychology, financial, first aid, communication and problem-solving).

And you could have your license revoked at any time for abuse, neglect, or not meeting the original requirements. What's more, you would have to have it renewed every two years while your child was under 18 years old.

How few people would have children if we demanded that they have the skills and resources to take care of them themselves and provide the best possible home environment??

You know what else this would mean? Society would take a whole lot more interest in whether people can get good jobs, good housing, and health care.

it wouldn't work. my ex-husband is one smooth talker and could talk the robe off the pope (yeah, turns out he is gay... my ex i mean :) he would have been VERY capable of getting his parenting license because he is VERY book smart. he reads up on things and then knows EXACTLY what people expect him to say and do. BUT, he beat one of our children with a belt across his back. when he was caught he called his attorney, worked out a great story and made protective service feel sorry for him... single dad... so much stress... "only beat him on 4 or maybe 5 occassions"... AND THEY SAID HE SHOWED GREAT REMORSE. the system is a joke. no license would help.

i would like to add that my ex promised protective service that he would never use physical punishment again, but then admitted in court a few months ago that he still spanks the kids...

if not any thing else.. i think people should be required to take a course or something to learn to be a parent.. .if you fail the course.. then you cannot become a parent. if people who want to adopt a child are required to become qualified.. or wut ever.. then why are birth parents not? i do agree with you!! totally!!1 it would save soooo many innocent childrens lives.. i work at a day care and totally think some of these people should NOT be a parent....
i am not at all saying i am the best mother in the world... but some things are just common friggin sense!!!! if you cant parent by common sense alone.. then you shouldnt AT ALL!!!
and being book smart should NOT count!!!!!! like i said, i work at a day care and the people who "teac" us in our trainings are all super intelligent when it comes to what is the "propper" way to do things.. but when it comes to the way that is ACTUALLY feesable.. meaning its possible.. its totally different.. so is parenting.

That's a very good question! I think we'd avoid many problems if parents were required to have a parenting license.

that's certainly a solid thought in concept, even nonetheless, as you reported, unenforceable. we'd thoroughly overload the gadget even better than it already is with court docket circumstances and removing infants from properties the place mothers and fathers dont have "licensure." the place are those infants going to circulate, and what are the suggestions-blowing standards for this license? the place might you draw the line between somebody who ought to get carry of one and somebody who ought to no longer? someplace between drug abusers, family participants violence subject concerns, or basically undeniable lack of understanding as mothers and fathers. distinctive human beings could have many distinctive evaluations concerning to what constitutes solid/undesirable parenting.

What an awesome idea, yes I agree 100%. Here's another question to go along with that one. Why is it that a person can be convicted of a crime against a child yet they themselves are allowed to have children???

I like the idea, but how do you plan to enforce something like that, birth control in the water with an antidote once you have a licence or forced adoption/abortion when people get pregnant without a licence?

Our society used to have one. It was called a marriage license. You were not allowed to have children and keep them without it.
