No, it's more like a dressing room/bathroom. When we die we are still splattered with the dirty consequences of our sins. In Purgatory we are cleansed like in a shower and then we are dressed in pure garments in order to make us ready for Heaven.

And the Church DID NOT say that Purgatory does not exist. It is still a major Dogma of the Catholic Church and as such must be believed by all Catholics. What was said is that Limbo does not exist. Purgatory and Limbo are two very different things.

Purgatory is not a get out of Hell free card or a way for non Christians to get into Heaven. It is a place for Christians who are already guaranteed Heaven but who need to be prepared for it first.

There is no Biblical evidence for Purgatory. There was a place called Sheol where righteous Jews and others waited the advent of Jesus to be accepted to Heaven but it is believed it was cleared out during the three days He was in the tomb. NT scripture says that those who die in the Lord are instantly translated to Heaven. Purgatory was "created" by the Catholic church as a way to charge it's adherents for indulgences and leave their estates to the Church to get out of jail more quickly.

Purgatory has long been denounced by the Catholic church...I believe, after their "Renew" campaign if was official, anyway. It originally was the "limbo" of sinners doing time for the "menial" sins before being able to enter heaven.
In reality, these never existed in God's realm...
they were part of a power play by the church...which didn't hold water after the steel workers went on strike & eating meat on Fridays (a purgatory offense) had to be "reassessed" for survival purposes of the poor.

Sorry, no such thing. I believe that even the Catholics don't believe in it anymore. From what I understand, it was derived from a phrase in either 1 or 2 Maccabees that the Catholics have in the Apocrypha. There is no reference to any type of soul sleep or purgatory in the Bible. Jesus told the thief on the cross that he would be with Jesus in Heaven that day.

There is no purgatory. Why would God need a waiting room?

Purgatory is the place where souls are purified. They are not clean or holy enough to enter heaven so they are there until they are ready for heaven.

Purgatory doesn't exist. The bible only talks about heaven and hell, and in the end, the lake of fire.
