I'm looking at buying a 1995 Lexus Es300 Sedan. It is automatic, cd/cassete/am/fm, air, leather seats, and it "runs great." One little problem... 162,000 miles. The price is $3950.

I'm turning 16 soon and I need a reliable car to get me through high school and most of college. All the reviews I've read on it say it is a good car, I'm just worried about the miles. I've yet to see the car, but I called the dealer and he said the body and interior is in good condition, so I'm relying on his word.

All help will be greatly appreciated! Thank you very much!

Thanks for the help guys! I found out the car was in a wreck, then I found a 2000 Saturn pretty cheap, so I went with it and I LOVE it!

Thanks again!

Great cars but with this mileage you want to make sure it was maintained properly.

Pay special attention to the valve covers and gaskets for oil leaks.

These engines are reliable, we sold our camry 3.0 (same motor) with just under 200k miles and never had any major failure. We put a steering rack in at 150k and a window regulator in about the same time. Minor outlays considering the use we got out of the car.

Sorry to burst you bubble but thats alot of miles even for an asian car. a car is truly only made to go to 75-100k miles and then its life is up, but you also have to think about safety besuase you are turning 16. Probaly getting a Used Volvo, saab, bmw, audi, vw are the best but you want realiablw well the most realible is vw but you need the best safety so a used volvo would be good and since a volvo has a huge depresion you can find one for an extemely low priece. like i have a 2002 volo s60 with 90k miles and its worth only 7k because of deprssion but this is probly never going to go under 5k so do not worry about selling and lossong 7 k or you can buy an s40 0r go into the 1990 year models. Volvo is just a way better car then a lexus in safety, quality, brand name and really realy imortant is A volvo is been rated the world's safest car for 15 years until recently bmw and m-benz got ahead THIS THEN MEANS THAT A VOLVO HAS ONE OF THE LOWEST YES LOWEST INSURANCE PAYMENTS thi means you can save some $$$$$$$ not like a lexus which would have high insurance and volvos are pretty reliable only take it in for regular service and you will be fine the only thing you will probaly be replacing alittle more then normal is the brake usally need repair alittle more and headlights and rear lights but these are very cheap things to fix realy you can do them your self. also since the lexus is a 1995 you will have lots of problems. an asian cars is not realible forever only for like the first 5 years of ownership. also i almost forgot that volvos have way less theft then lexus.

Hi Kate,
The '95 es is a good car. But with all cars they have their own quirks. Along with leaking valve cover gaskets, here are some other things to look for:
-power steering pumps:they have a tendency to leak. The high side pressure hose for the power steering is prone to leaking with high mileage.
-air conditioning:expansion valves and evaporators. The evaporators are under the dashboard on the passenger side. They are costly to repair.
-front struts:if they are original, they need to be replaced soon.
-oxygen sensors: this car has four and can get expensive.
As mentioned in other people's answers, the Camry is the same car with the same problems. Best thing you could do is to spend a few dollars to have any car looked at by a qualified mechanic.
Good Luck!!

They are good car, and can go up pretty high in mileage, but why not get something with a little less mileage on it and maybe something a little newer? Did you know you can get a Toyota Camery ( Same price as the Lexus) and get a newer car, lower mileage and the same reliability. Lexus is made by Toyota and the ES is on the same platform as the Camry.

That is the same as a 95 Camry. Very good car, but you could probably find a 95 Camry with the same miles for $2500.00. That might be a better bet. Both are good reliable cars.

The LS400 is going to have a miles more suitable useful vacation then youre acura. it will be smoother, quiter and in basic terms experience more suitable useful. on the down facet you wont get as sturdy of performance. The LS400 replaced into designed to be a luxury motor vehicle, not a activities motor vehicle. even as the suspension is tender and massive for vacation high quality, its undesirable for handling and yeilds a lot of body roll. even if the 4.0 v8 interior the LS has a large style of ability and could upward thrust up and bypass once you favor, in basic terms favor to grant it a second to get going. all round large motor vehicle, and for my area more suitable useful than the acura.

you don't want a car that will cost you more than the value to fix when it breaks down. look at a feul economic car like a cavalier or better yet a pontiac grand prix you will like the ride and they are dependable "very"
