I think reassurance is key. Also...try putting a "special" sticker on the medicine cabinet that keeps monsters away. Or vary it...anti-monster candle or a spray bottle filled with anti-monster spray (water) that you keep next to the potty seat that you child has access to to make him feel like he has some control. Get your child involved and make it fun.

There were monsters when I was little too. It seemed real enough to me. Give him time and he will grow out of it. In the meantime, tell him as long as the light is on in the bathroom that the monsters wont come out.

When my kids were afraid of the dreaded monsters in the house, I would assure them that there was not one monster crazy enough to come into our home because all the monsters were afraid of me! Then I would get really silly and start looking for that monster that was crazy enough to step foot into the mama's house! Soon I would have everyone laughing and all silly and convinced that I was the super mama monster slayer.... worked for me....glad I never really had to slay any old monster though...*smiles*

Get a squirt or spray bottle or a squirt gun. Fill it with "Magic Monster BeGone Formula" (like scented water). Explain to him what it is and why it should only be used on monsters. It will give him control over the situation and build his confidence.

Hang a poster of his favorite cartoon character in there, and make him believe that character is there to protect him in the bathroom.
(Smile, Show excitement! Make a big happy fuss about it!)
And change the bathroom a little.
Brighter light, more bright colors.
Make the bathroom a fun place to be.

it is not usual if the children live below usual situations. It they're residing with an abusive father, i'd say it changed into *very* usual. it ought to also be usual if there is a few thing else scary happening of their lives (sexual abuse operating example). If a newborn is scared a lot or each of the time, and also you do not comprehend the reason, i'd say it calls for analyze. in case you *do* comprehend the reason, it must be interior the youngster's acceptable activity if the reason is fastened or eradicated.
