What is an appropriate gift to give for a baptism? It's for my 1 year old nephew. I am not involved in the baptism as a godparent or anything. If money is an appropriate gift, how much to give? Thanks!

My niece just got baptized and I gave her money for her savings account--$50 because she is a close relative. Whatever you can afford. You can also give a small token gift--go to a religious or bible store. The people in there can help you find something nice. My niece got a small porcelain cross, a book called My First Book of Bible Stories, money, a Spidel bracelet with her name engraved and the baptism day, a limoge style box with a cross on top, a silver keepsake box to put the candle, baptism certificate and program in. She also got a Precious Moments figurine--which are nice because they are religious oriented, though they can be expensive. Whatever you decide to give, I'm sure it will be used and appreciated. :)

When I was baptized, my godmother gave me a music box. Actually, it was an angel that played Braham's lullaby. I still have it. (it's over 40 years old)

So, when my nieces and nephews were baptized, especially my godchildren, I bought them a music box. They weren't all religious in nature, although you can find some nice ones- Precious Moments, for example.

San Francisco Music Box Company has a nice selection.
Otherwise, check out the infant section, you may find some there.

It's something they will always have... hoping they aren't allowed to play with it. And,they can pass it on to their children when the time comes.

I always give young children Savings bonds for events like this. They don't KNOW what's going on. ANd if held will double in price.

All they will know is years from now they have a decent amount of money to cash in.

Note... and it's sad to even say this, but take it from a divorced parent... for minors, make the bond out to the child, and the mother as custodian. My ex... well, he cashed in the ones that he was custodian of...and goodness knows what happened to the money since.

Since it is a religoius occasion, why not give him a religious book? I'm assuming he'll receive a Bible from his godparent or parent, but there are plenty of other books available for children that will introduce them to godly issues.

Money wise, $25 to $50, depending on how close you are. Go to a religious store for ideas on other types of gifts. They can be very helpful to you.

I'd give him a simple, "growth" scrapbook. One where each year, he can put a picture of himself, and jot down notes of each year of his life. When he reaches adult age, marries and becomes a parent himself, this book ( if well maintained ) will be a teasured keepsake.

They make "infant rosaries" which have brightly colored wooden beads. A statue with their patron saint is always nice. Or a book that they can read in a few years is also great. :)
