4 to 6 months. I believe your Vet will tell you (or the ASPCA) that they need to be a certain weight.

A pup can be neutered as long as he is old enough to be removed from the litter (around 8 weeks). However, some vets argue to wait until they are 5-6 months old in case a health problem develops that requires sedation. Commonly, puppies can have deciduous teeth that do not fall out and that need to be pulled. I had a puppy that needed hip x-rays at 5 months that required sedation. By waiting to neuter, both procedures can be performed at once, so it is safer for the dog (and cheaper for you). You should still take care to neuter the dog before he hits puberty. Consult your vet.

Vets with special training can neuter at 8 weeks. Most vets do not have the additional training to do it, some do.

I would wait until at least 6 months, maybe longer. When the male is neutered, you are cutting off all the hormones in his body. Hormones are used by the body for growth and developement.

Now if money is a concern, vets charge for neutering by the pound. It is less expensive to neuter a puppy than an adult.

Most males can be castrated from 5 months of age. It is recommended to have a check over with the vets first, to make sure he will be fit for an anesthetic. This is a simple procedure that requires a short general anesthetic. Both the testicles will be removed surgically. There will be some stitches that will need to be removed 10 days after the operation. You will need an appointment with us for this to be done. Your dog can go home on the same day.

You can spay or neuter a dog at the age of 6 weeks, the earlier the better. It cuts down on their chance of cancer. It is also up to you're vet at what age they will do this. Some won't do it until the a female dog has gone through her first heat, (usually 6 months) and with male dogs they won't do it until he is 6 months.
good luck.

4 months or older... the sooner the better. They like to mark their territory alot and their manhood tends to "pop" out.. which might I add is real gross. Also, you don't want your male dog spreading the love all over the neighborhood... you will end up with unwanted puppies... Spay it's the Way..

Mine was done in the shelter at 10 weeks old. I got him 4 days later. He's a year and a half now and fit, as well as good health.

This is early, but like I said he was from a shelter and they usually do it early.

My dog is nine years old now. However, I believe I got him neutered at four months old. The earliest age you can get it done, the better, for you and the dog.
