When under trial, let no one say: “I am being tried by God.” For with evil things God cannot be tried nor does he himself try anyone. James 1:13

God is not the one punishing you. You punish your self when you make negative or unloving choices. The negativity always causes a painful backlash that is intended to show you that some other choice would be a better idea next time.
This mechanism is self-regulating and built into Gods plan for us. Saying that God is the one doing it is avoiding the truth that we are the ones making the choices that create the negative outcome.
The devil is a fantasy made up to scare little children into being good. Sadly some of us never grew up enough to figure this out. You’re smarter than this or you could never have asked this question. Forget the devil and assume responsibility for your own actions.
Love and blessings

Neither 'God' nor "Satan" punishes anybody. The only kind of true punishment there is is productive and enlightening: it's called karma, and is self-inflicted.
Humans have free will - and every person alive made the choice to become incarnate and to develop and grow as a separate human being - without divine intervention. What most humans don't realize is that we are all part of the same source, the same cosmos, which is God. Not the biblical 'God' which is a patchwork of superstitions and senseless dogma, but the true God. When we reach a point in our experiences when we can recognize God in everything and everyone (including ourselves), when we can understand the profound responsibility we collectively have for one another and the world in which we live, then we can begin to change the world. We're a long way from that, however, and as long as we "blame" 'God' or 'Satan' for the things for which we ourselves are responsible, we continue to live in dark confusion.

If you have any children, do you punish them when they do wrong? Normally it is called a natural consequence for our action. God will punish those that do wrong one day because He is such a loving God. Some think He will just let everything go but a loving God would and could never do that. That is not love to just let a child do whatever they want and hurt themselves.

When things go wrong in our lives, it is God's way of redirecting our lives. Think about it, if God wishes us to go in a different direction, at work for instance, if we are happy with our job, we wouldn't do anything to change it. God has a plan for us, He knows better than we do what will make us happy. If we are stubborn and do what we want to do, we find a lot of unhappiness, but if we surrender to His will we find peace and happiness.
The enemy doesn't punish us, he seduces us into thinking that what he wants for us will make us happy, but in the long-run it will not.

God can punish those who do serious misdeeds. Sometimes, though, challenges appear in our lives as tests for God to see what would we do; we oftentimes look upon such things as "punishment".
And the Satan too, poses temptations--close to watch what we would do as well.
Punishment, Karma....or whatever: we're tested pretty much on a daily basis, with only our minds, hearts and our belief in God to guide us along.

I don't think I'd use the word punish. I think consequences is a better word.
When you sin, you will reap the consequences of that sin. Sometimes consequences can be harsher than others. People who lie are sometimes found out, and it can ruin a job, a reputation, a relationship, etc.
I do think that God allows us to suffer consequences of our behavior so that we can see where it gets us. That's why the bible teaches "do not be deceived; God is not mocked; what a man sows, he shall reap".
Also remember that He is a God of forgiveness. If we confess our sins, He is faithful, and forgives us.

God doesnt punish us intentionally, the only time real good things happen with us is when we have Him in us, but obviously when we do wrong we wanna do our own things instead of havin his as our light so he just lets us do what we want (since we already did it and isolated him out of our plans) and since it was our idea of what we wanted to do, things (always) goes wrong.
technically, we punish ourselves

NO! We are on this Earth doing out FREE WILL thing.
If one becomes a TRUE CHRISTIAN during our time on Earth, we will go to HEAVEN.
God does NOT have to be pampered or anything during our life time......HE watches, but does not interfere.
People who tell you that any god or the devil is punishing does NOT know the facts.
