Not really. Most children will use both hands depending on what they are doing. They might eat with the left and draw with the right. But you can try putting the spoon or crayon on the table instead of in their hand and see which hand they prefer to use.

Yes and no. Some kids don;t make a decision until 3 years old or later. I knew right away my older daughter was a lefty. Anything you put in front of her, she went for with the left hand - every time. She is 8 now and a lefty at everything but softball batting. Go figure!

Not really. You can always look at the parent's genes though. If the both of you are right handed your baby probably will be as well. If one of you is left handed then it has a chance of being left handed but still will probably be right handed. But, both of my parents were right handed and they have two lefties so I guess you can never tell.

I just read about this the other day. A baby isn't right handed or left handed until they are two. I read it on a web site....I think american baby or something like that....I will see if I can find the article.

Yes. See what hand they use to reach for things and if that doesn't work get a really -really- soft foam ball and throw it -gently- at the baby's face. Whichever hand they put up to stop ball is the one they'll use dominantly.

My brother, when he was a baby, was kind of slow and the ball kept hitting him in the face. It was funny and kind of sad.

Usually by eighteen months, a child will have a preferred hand and by two years, you will know for sure whether the child is left or right-handed.

Try putting a crayon and paper in front of them and see which hand they use to work with. That will most likely be the one they use later on in life too.

Watch for which hand the baby eats with.

with a toddler you can leave their spoon IN THEIR FOOD and let them choose which hand. another way to tell with a toddler is to roll a ball to them and tell them to kick it. you will kick with your left foot if left handed, right foot if right handed.

with babies... they are interchangeable though.

Just watch as the baby plays and you will figure out the dominant hand.
