The best thing Bill Clinton did was to apologize for slavery. He had the guts & compassion to acknowledge what a deep wound it still is, and to take responsibility for it on behalf of the government. Sometimes people don't necessarily want money, they just want someone to admit a mistake and say "I'm sorry that ever happened."

Of course, he had to learn to do that on behalf of his own personal mistakes, too! :-)
