Hi anyone been camping with a young child/toddler? My daughter is 18 months and where going on our first camping trip this weekend, any tips for me and my fiance?
Where only going to a basic site in Wales. Not like a holiday park or anything, we'll be in a 4 man tent, were driving up in a large van.
I.e what to take? Things to do?

Hi, she is still in a cot at home. Should I take the travel cot with me? Or have her sleep with us? The tent is large enough for the cot and us two etc.

I just returned from a 4 day camping trip with a 2-year-old. Everything went swimmingly. We brought a bunch of sturdy toys along for him to play with, but mostly he was enraputred by the wonders of nature. He loved watching the ants at work, chasing an orange bird away from his snack food, living in his "cat house" (the tent) and running wild in only a diaper (and sometimes without! Adam and Eve would be so jealous!) we brought along a DVD player just in case, but he really wasn't interested. He took long naps in the camp chairs and chatted up a storm about everything he saw. He even cried when it was time to go home, he was enjoying the nonstop attention and fun so much. His favorie activity was drawing with the charcoal remnants form our grill. I would take:
sturdy outdoor toys that are too large to lose
paper and crayons
bubbles
beach toys, if you are going to be by water
butterfly net

I hope you all have as much fun as we did!

We went memorial day weekend with my 3 year old and had a blast. Like mentioned above, bring sunscreen and bug spray. Also let her bring something from home to make her feel comfortable sleeping in a tent. We had my son sleep in the middle of us on an air mattress just because we were worried he would get cold at night, but this time of year I think it would be ok to have her sleep on her own mattress if she is comfortable with that. Let her have her own flashlight, my son loved that! Bring cloths for any kind of weather because you never know how it is going to be out there and make sure you bring a few different outfits (i made the mistake of only bringing one sweatshirt and we needed it everyday and it was soooo dirty by the end of the weekend) Have fun!

It kind of depends on your daughter's temperment. You know her better than anyone. I have taken my son camping twice, once at 18 months, and once at 26 months. Both times were great. Some tips are: make sure EVERYONE has their own sleeping bag and sleeping pad/cushion. We thought that the 3 of us could fit on just 2 (tried to save some $)... it didn't work, and we were really uncomfortable. Take LOTS of extra clothes. My son spent most of the time making/finding/playing in the mud! DON'T take lots of toys... let her explore rocks, pinecones, dirt, water, leaves, etc. Toys are just one more thing to pack, unpack, take care of. The stroller is great, it serves as a high chair and a place to sit by the campfire. DO take Tylenol, but DO NOT give it just in case or as a preventative... that doesn't make ANY sense at all. I hope you have a great time!

Sorry if I'm stating the obvious, but here are some thoughts:You'll need a camping cot, and a toddler chair of some kind (her buggy might do) - for those moments when you want to ensure she stays put! You don't say whereabouts in Wales but there are some super beaches, zoos, country walks, castles etc. You may need some kind of sunshade on the beach if it stays hot and sunny, and something for insect bites - just in case! I hope this helps!

There are some great suggestions here already. I camp regularly with our 5 and 2 year old. We bring paper, crayons and glue. You can make rubbings with leaves and other things you find, or just glue them on the paper. Both kids are toilet trained so we bring the little potty for in the tent. They each have their own sleeping bags. A flashlight that is easy for her to turn on herself would be a good idea.

Most stores sell a blow up child bed in many different characters that is easy to set up and small enough to take on your camping trip. Don't forget bug spray! Buy your child a flashlight, they also sell those with characters on them to make it more fun. Sunscreen is a must for any child. There is nothing worse then have to cancel the trip cause of a sun burn kid. For child camping fun buy them a bug net and bug jar to keep them entertained in the outdoors. A Stroller is a must, make sure you have one with the larger wheels its easy to push them though grass and dirt trails. They also sell child character cantines for water.

Hope these ideas help and have fun camping!

well, as many have stated, be sure you have sunscreen and bug spray. Be sure it is kid safe, cause she willl put her hands in her mouth. She would be ok, to sleep with ya'll, that is a personal prefrence. Congrats on the little one.Even tho , i am quite a bit late. Be sure you have wet ones, or something like that cause of all the diorts and stuff, and just bathe her like that before you puit her to bed, as if you wasx giving her a bath. Take a {few} of her favorite toys. Well, I hope that you yhave a good time, and drive safely. Congrats on the engagement.

Make sure you bring bug spray, enough of evrything (diapers) tylenol, enough clothes, enough blankets, you could never bring too much. I would bring a play pen, or a swing, whatever he likes. The whole point of going camping is roughing it out, but not for your baby, he has to be as comfortable as he is at home or even more. I have gone camping with my baby also, we went to cocoa beach but he got a fever, and believe me he never gets sick, you have to be prepared for the worse. I would actually give him some tylenol around 6pm, just in case does catch anything, or just to prevent. But thats just me. Dont forget you are out doors and weather changes dramatically at night time. Good luck I m also going camping in two weeks...

well ofcourse. make sure you take bug spray that is safe for children, sunscreen, lots of water for the lil one.maybe a radio for at night. I am not sure if the darkness will scare your baby. The radio with her favorite songs in it could ease her from the sounds of the outside. I dunnol..was just trying to help ya out

Have a Great Time
