Can be done! Waste of time. 98 computers are too slow for modern use. Donate the 98 to a charity and buy yourself an XP straight.

If your computer shipped with Windows 98 and you haven't upgraded it at all, it will likely not run well with Windows XP on it. However, you can probably run Windows 2000 on it just fine. Windows XP and 2000 are basically the same operating system but XP has a few more enhancements, security features but I think Windows 2000 is about they best you will be able to do.

Windows xp requires a minimum of 125 megs of RAM - but runs better on 256. If your machine has this much RAM and a minimum of 3 gig on the hard drive - you can do it - but it will be slow.
The hard drive should be a min of 10 gig.

Chances are, it's not worth it. XP is a HUGE program and if your machine isn't designed for XP it won't have the RAM to run it well. Take it from one who knows, it's not worth doing unless you also upgrade your RAM and hard drive.

Yep - just make sure it is the upgrade CD.
If not, put a new installation on, wipe of 98 and reinstall all programs (after wiping them)
